If you fire Morey, who would you hire to replace him?

While I acknowledge that the jury is still out on Morey to some degree, no one could have done better than he has done. Les isn't exactly uncle money bags like Buss and others, but Morey is still getting it done. If he ever becomes the gm of a team like the blazers, with an owner like Allen, that team will be unlike anything we've ever seen in the modern era of basketball.

Because there are a lot of GMs who, saddled with a old, slow, injury prone roster, could turn it into a young, talented, much faster team on the fly in a relatively short period of time.

One year where we barely missed the playoffs, not several, where we were bottom dwellers like most rebuilding teams. We would not have even missed the playoffs then if it hadn't been for an Yao's injury.

Are the same people who say 'We need LeBron, Wade, Bosh AND Paul to win a championship' the same people who say Morey isn't a great GM?

It's amazing isn't it? How anyone could think the jury is still out on Daryl Morey is beyond me. If he left the Rockets, he'd be flooded with job offers.

Let me say something else about the guy. He's got the brains to GM any sport not just basketball. I would not be shocked to see him running an NFL team in 20 years, not at all.

Bima, i agree with alot of what you say, but in 05 they lost malone, payton, and shaq and were picking in the top 10. Three yrs later they've been to the finals 3 times and have 2 rings and are the favorites again. I think the hardest things gm's have to face is the honest assessment of their team. Mitch was honest and let the 1 run go and basically started over. When bynum went down and la had the best record in the west, he said on sirius that he didnt think la could make the playoffs minus a trade. The gasol trade was more than a salary dump. The grizz had been high on little brother for a few yrs and big brother had basically quit on the team. No team wanted to give up their best prospect and 3 1st rd picks for a complimetary max salaried guy sulking. That took balls big time.

Kupchak went from bum to superstar because of his decisions that has his team elite. I dont know if morey couldve traded a still prime shaq for what he got from miami.

I agree. Mitch has it tough. It's really hard to assess a team with the best player of his generation. I mean, nothing like looking at your roster, see a prime Kobe Bryant, and go, "Huh, where can I find talent?"

Nothing like having kobe and losing in the 1st rd 2 yrs in a row. Nothing like having one of the best players in the league and winning 45 games. Nothing like having your best player blasting you in the media and talk about being done with the team. Nothing like not trading the 19 yr old 7fter for the 35 yr old hall of famer.

If I were dumb enough to fire Morey, then I would be smart enough to hire someone like DaDakota to be my GM.

Wait, so he's a good GM because he manages to take the best player in the NBA to the #8 pick in the draft. I like that logic. Does this mean if Morey had sent Yao and T-Mac(healthy days) to the #2 pick and drafted Kevin Durant, he'd be at Kupchuck's level? And that if he had taken that Durant/T-Mac/Yao team and sent it to the #1 pick the next year for Derrick Rose... he'd be the best GM EVER?

Oh, and nice of Kupchuck to cry to his old boss in his time of need, in order to secure a 2nd star next to Kobe. It's so difficult to make deals when you have no competition and inside people.

Kupchuck: "Hi, Wallace, we'd like Gasol from you."
Wallace: "Well, he's our star player. So I want to shop him around to see what we can get."
West(behind Wallace): "Just trade him to LA. The owner just want to dump salary anyway. Take it easy for your new job."
Wallace: "Okay. Just give me expiring contracts... wait, that may sound too lopsided for the fans, give me a 1st round pick too. And do you have any young players you don't need? Critchten? Pau's younger brother Marc Gasol? Perfect. Deal!"

    An attempt at shock value?

Fired? I don't get fired. My methods get researched, analyzed and copied. I'm like rare art.
