If you could go back in time and bring back one player to our current team, who would it be and why?

There are players like Robert Horry who fit in perfectly and suit what we need. Barkley, as much as I hate him and wouldn't want to help him get a ring, would be a superb fit on the court.

But then there is the idea of best player available and I feel like if we replaced Howard with a healthy Yao we would dominate this NBA for years. Same goes for Sampson and Hayes.

Some of you folks I think are missing the point of the question. It's not a popularity poll. The question is fitting in on THIS team.

Our weakest position is easily at PF. Therefore Malone, Thorpe and Barkley are solid picks except they definitely are not stretch 4's. Horry and Bullard were our best stretch 4's but definitely not all-stars or even starters on this team.

I might take Ralph Sampson. Start him at 4. He can run the floor and hit midrange shots. Then he can backup Howard to keep his minutes down.

On this team as currently constructed, Ryan Bowen would be deadly at the four. Give me an assassin like David Wesley off the bench, and watch history get made.

2 HOF'ers and an allstar, but talk about guys whose half-court games don't really translate well to this era...

This is true. He's very fond of pointing out how much more effective he'd be now that you can't foul him like they did back then. I only ever remember Matt shooting threes, and dammit, if that isn't what the whole league's about nowadays. Bullard's 6'10". He was always skinny, but he'd be your quintessential stretch-4 in today's age.

    Yao Ming

We got rid of Dorsey, Smith, and now we get rid of Dwight.

No more poor free throw shooting on the team. :p

A healthy Yao easily for me.

Yao would be C on defense and PF on offense. Dwight would be PF on defense and C on offense.

    Yao
    Dwight
    Ariza
    Harden
    Lawson

Sampson would probably be a better fit but I really miss Yao.

Sam Cassell? Biggest heart on the court.

The 2009-2010 team with Landry, Scola, Hayes, Brooks, Lowry and all those other guys. So much fun to watch. Reminds me a lot of the years the Astros had with Lidge, Dotel and Wagner, before they became sell outs.

Who wouldn't want Charles Oakley on this team right now?

Did anyone say Derrick Chievous yet? If not that's my pick.

If someone said that, then I'm going with Dave Jamerson.

Dude - suggesting Ryan Bowen is not in the spirit of this thread.

I mean, if we're going to bar Olajuwon from the suggestions, we have to include Ryan Bowen for the same reasons.

Before the Lawson trade I would have easily said Lowry. We obviously have had better players than him in the past, but none fill the biggest need like he would...but now that we have potentially filled that need

Assuming the player would be healthy....Probably Yao, not only could you play him and Dwight together some, when it comes down to a tight playoff game you have Yao in the middle and don't have to worry about the hacka crap

Tough to pass on a healthy T Mac though, he might not "fit" our biggest needs, but the guy was dominant. A team with him and Harden at the 2/3 would be a beast

No Dream, then Horry to make GS pay for going to small ball. Robert would light up Draymond Green. I would take Mad Max to shut down Curry by playing bullyball!

That team would be great against the Grizzlies, and then lose to the Warriors by about a billion points.
