If you could form a team and could choose from anyone in history, who's your squad?

In the spirit of the current debates, if you're forming a team and you have all the players in the history of the NBA in their primes to choose from, who do you choose? Who's your starting five and your reserves off the bench?

This would be my TEAM. This is not the best individual player at every position. This is my TEAM.

    Starting 5:

PG) Magic Johnson - match-up problems he would create with his height put him over Stockton.

SG) Michael Jordon - do I really need to explain.

SF) Larry Bird - would provide the outside shooting.

PF) Karl Malone - best power foward in history.

    C) Bill Russell - this team would not need scoring, just is defense, blocks, and intangibles he would provide.

    Bench:
Pete Maravich - combo guard who could come off the bench and provide scoring, passing, and just all-around instant offense.

John Stockton - great floor general and gritty player. He knows the game and with the fire power on this team would get the ball to the right player at the right time.

Bill Walton - may sound strange me picking him over Chamberline but again this team does not need scoring. He would give this team defense, rebounding, and is one of the greatest team players of all time. He could score too if need be.

Oscar Robinson - he averaged a triple double one year. He could come off the bench and play a number of positions and contribute in a varity of ways.

Kevin McCale - a true post player. Was said to have the best post moves ever. A winner.

Dr. J - just another legend to add to this bunch

    Jerry West - Mr. Clutch

I wouldn't necessarily take the best players, as a matter of fact I would probably take the 80's version of the Celtics or Lakers or even Sixers. Teams that had the chemistry to win. I would take the guards of the Lakers and forwards-centers of Boston.

    PG- Magic Johnson
    SG- Byron Scott
    SF- Larry Bird
    PF- McHale
    C- Parish

    Others on bench:
    M. Cooper (SG)
    Mo Cheeks (PG)
    Bobby Jones (SF/PF)
    Dennis Johnson (PG)
    Dr. J (SF/SG)
    Kareem (C)
    Moses (C)

Of course some of my better players (Kareem, Moses, Dr. J) are on the bench but I would like to keep as much chemistry as possible in the starting 5.
As far as chemistry Larry, Magic & Dr. J all sacrificied individual stats for their respective teams but they would be the leaders.
Also I know everyone else outside of possibly Moses & Kareem wouldn't mind deferring to others. Those two could be my only problems, but hey if they don't play nice I would cut them both and add Bill Walton and Bob McAdoo!

It sounds like you're punishing Chamberlain because he could score. Chamberlain was a better rebounder and shot blocker than Walton, and he also once led the league in assists, so he's a good passer and team player.

    C) Russell, Chamberlain, Olajuwon

    PF) McHale, Moses Malone

    SF) Bird, Havlicek

    1st Team:

PG Magic Johnson, He is the perfect fit for a team of Champions. He is the greatest team player in the history of the game with Bird and only cares about winning.

    SG Micheal Jordan, Who else?

SF Larry Bird, See Magic Johnson.

PF Elvan Hayes, Sorry but I'm not choosing Karla Big Flob Malone. Besides Hayes was the best of the power forwards of the 70's and even won a ring.

C Wilt Chamberlain, The most dominating player in NBA history.

    2nd Team

    PG Bob Cousey

SG Oscar Robertson, If he would have just won a couple of Championships with out Kareem then I would have picked him over MJ. I'm still not sure he wasn't better than MJ.

SF Julius (Dr.J) Erving, changed the way the game was played.

PF Tim Ducan, I know he is young but he has a ring and is better than Malone or McHale IMO. My next choice would have be Kevin Garnet.

Center Toss Up between Hakeem the Dream Olajuwan or Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Dream is the greatest athletic and defensive player to ever wear a uniform and he was a dominating scorer. Jabbar may be the best offensive player to ever wear a uniform and he was dominating on defense.

I strongly considered putting Rodman on my team somewhere, too. Championship rings with Detroit and Chicago ... if you could take the Detroit Rodman and not the Chicago Rodman, I'd probably try to find a place for him.

As long as it doesn't mean I hafta kick George the Iceman Gervin off! [IMG] Imagine he & Dr. J on the same team on the court at the same time. That would be entertaining!

Here is my team. Of course, I tried to be more realistic and did not chose the best player at every position. I'd put this team against any team on the planet!

    Bill Russell C
    Dennis Rodman PF
    James Worthy SF
    Mario Elie SG
    John Stockton PG

    Bench:

    Larry Smith C/PF
    Shandon Anderson SF/SG
    Steve Kerr PG

The youth on this board is obvious when so many omit Oscar Robartson from their team all together.

Oscar is arguably the best player of all time. IMO his stats are more impresive than Jordans.

a team with the following players would beat any team i believe

c - shaquille o'neal , larry brown said it best "he's the greatest player i've ever seen"

pf - hakeem olajuwon, i know he's a center but in his prime he was fast enough to play even small forward in my opinion

sf - oscar robertson, the man averaged a triple double for a season for goodness sake

sg - michael jordan, he was a pretty good scorer

pg - magic johnson, i need someone to pass the ball to the scorers

    bench

    ------------------

    wilt chamberlain
    bill russell
    larry bird
    julius erving
    isaiah thomas
    kareem abdul jabbar
    jerry west
