Let's not be too greedy here. Prime Moses, TMac, or Yao wouldn't be fair. How about some toughness and swagger from Otis, or Sam I am?

All the guys in the poll are old or injured. I'd take a guy actually in the NBA right now. Dragic, Lowry, Patterson, Scola, etc.

You do realize he only played a couple of seasons in Houston, first when they moved here in '71 and at the tail end of his career?

My mistake, but I did in fact mean to include that their play is based off their years as Rockets. Meaning older Barkley/Pippen, younger Malone etc.

What difference does that make? The poll said "one player in Rox history", so Hayes easily fits the criteria. He played a total of seven seasons with the Rockets, four in Houston and three in San Diego.

    TMac? lol

Clyde all the way. The man went to back to back NBA Finals case closed.

Mentally tougher than anyone on this list.

Ron Artest if I had to choose the other. We need a strong willed player for this team.

I was replying to the fact that he said he was criticized as a LOF, and picked the Big E. I suspected he happened to see he played here on the All-Rockets team, but didn't know he actually only played a couple of seasons with the HOUSTON Rockets.

OK, but he played for the HOUSTON Rockets for four years not two.

    For fit: give me Cassell.

A great floor general that can shoot and bring a ton of toughness and swag to this fragile (and often rattled) squad.

It would also give us the flexibility to comfortably move Lin.

    Sigh. If only.

You bring in Yao to back up DH. We run and gun with the first unit, then pound it in the
    post with the second unit.
    The best of both worlds.

IMO Horry would be the perfect fit, a stretch 4, great weak side blocks and rebounds and of course he was "big time Bob".

Or you could have "Sam I Am" at the the point? A constant threat to get to the hoop or hit the deep three, spark plug.

But how could you pass up "Clyde the Glide"? The veteran leadership he would bring.

Talk about a big three... Howard, Harden and Clyde, Wow!

Very hard choice for me. I could have wet dreams of...

    Howard/Asik
    Horry/Jones
    Cylde/Parsons
    Harden/Lin
    Cassel/Bev

None of our pgs know how to control the tempo of a game. Sam Cassell would be perfect, and even though he was not a prolific three point shooter, the man was CLUTCH!

4 pages and no love for Cat Mobley? This squad doesnt need another bonafide superstar. we just need someone like Mobley who can fit right in. He made mistakes when he was relied upon to do too much during the Francis era but for this squad he'd be the perfect compliment. Instant offense off the bench, good defender, ability to create his own shot and create opportunities for others. Could knock down the 3 or drive by anybody, always played with effort.

You know, there are bigger names in terms of stardom, but we already have 2-3 guys demanding massive touches on offense so as to render the Drexlers and Barkleys and T-Macs redundant. That said, I think the ideal player for this team is 1995 Robert Horry. Fills a need for defense, shooting, athleticism, and multi-position versatility. Start him at 4, simultaneously make him the backup 3. A lot of problems solved.
