I'm a Rome fan (minority here, I can tell), but I'm starting to listen less and less. I just don't find his show as entertaining as it used to be. He doesn't seem to be as "controversial" as he used to be -- seems to play it safe all the time. Tries not to offend anyone. It's gotten boring. Even when I'm listening, I'm not REALLY listening, it's more of just background noise. I subscribe to SteamLink so I can hear it on the net (can't really pick up AM radio well around all the computers), but I'm thinking of dropping it, b/c I just don't enjoy his show much any more. He's gotten to talk a LOT more sports than he used to, but Rome's sports takes are kind of dull. For pure SPORTS talk, I'd much rather hear Charlie and Rich.

OH, I was thinking of starting a thread on this, but this place is as good as any.

CHANCE, YOU ARE DOING AN AWESOME JOB AT 610
LOVE the new format!!!!!!! Now all we need is online audio broadcast and it's all good!

Excuse my ignorance, but why does he keep calling him Chris?

I find Rome entertaining in kind of a childish way, but don't listen to him because I don't have the time.

I remember when this happened. They literally broke into programming on the ESPN to show what happened on the show, which was on ESPN2. I think I was watching a baseball game or something as a sophmore in college...and they broke in and showed this clip.

Hilarious. Jim Everett. Great jungle guy. Are you kidding me? Epic. Out.

Great find! I forgot how hilarious that was. If I ever teach a sports media class, this video will be shown as what NOT to do. As the Joker said in "Batman:"
This link shows a bit more of the interview and what a prick Romey is. He clearly deserved to get his ass whipped. I never would ever think of interviewing someone, even someone I disliked strongly (like Phil Fulmer) with that amount of disrespect. While I ask tough questions, I'm not going to sit there and insult someone who took the time to come on my show.

I think Rome, and his whole schtick is lame. His diction, his incoherent pauses, his proverbial beating of a dead horse (on every topic). Then, his callers known as "the Clones", call in faithfully and act as if they are cutting a WWE pay-per view promo. I find the whole presentation unbearable. That's why this clip is so great, I wish he received a few more "Everettings" more often.

Jim Rome is a pathetic, attention-starved, mean spirited, hypocrite. I remember one show where he was mentioning how Dick Vitale was not a good announcer and was bad for collage sports. A month later Dick Vitale was on the Rome show plugging his book, and Rome was praising him as a great sports announcer.

The Rome show is basically a sports gossip show. It’s the National Enquirer for the sports crowd. Rome makes fun of athletes, makes fun of their looks, and can’t wait for an athlete to get in trouble with the law. If an athlete beats his wife, Rome knows he will get great ratings by making fun of it.

I stopped listening to Rome Show after Chris Farley passed away. The day that Farley died Rome was making joke after joke about the many reasons someone of that size could die. I was not a Chris Farley fan but most moral people show respect of a person when they die. All Rome cared about was trying to make his rating better.

Lets not forget Pat Tillman’s eulogy. During the 15 minute eulogy Rome mentioned himself or his radio show 79 times. As Keith Olbermann mentioned, that’s an average of one self-promotion every 11.5 seconds.

    Couldn't. Agree. More.

Rome's show has become, for him, a celebration of 'me'. He is contradictory and hypocritical on so many topics it's laughable.

Like when he chastises somebody for insensitivity towards a general group in one breath, then trashes "euro's", "nags" in the WNBA, and "rednecks" (in some mock southern accent) in the next.

The point is not that he crosses the line, necessarily. But that he keeps moving the line depending on how it'll play that particular day. It would be nice if he could at least try to be consistent.

Other annoyances of Rome have already been articulated quite nicely. I won't even get into the inflections, cadence, and eighteen-second pregnant pauses.

Is it something about radio call-in shows that make the hosts start to feel like gods (or godesses of course, e.g. Dr. Laura)? Seriously. Like or dislike Rush, his show is also a celebration of himself, his brilliant show, and his loyal followers ("ditto-heads" or something like that  ). If I could think of any liberal radio hosts, I'm sure they'd be the same way.

What is it about the format? The ability to hang up on people? To be invisible but omniscient?

Forgive me here, but could someone tell me who Jim Everrette is, and why Rome decided to push his luck.

Jim Everett was a highly regarded QB that was an All-American at Purdue and then went onto the NFL with the Rams. He was a Pro Bowl player for awhile but as the Rams teams started to crumble (i.e. suck), his star started to fade. But it really wasn't his fault - he had no support around him anymore. So the smug ******* Rome thought it would be cute to mock him and call him famous women's tennis player, Chris Evert.

Correct me if I am wrong, didn't the Oilers draft him and trade him to the rams for Drew Hill and I think some lineman?

Right last name, wrong first name.

Everett was dealt to the L.A. Rams for three draft picks, offensive guard Kent Hill and defensive end William Fuller

I still listen to and enjoy Rome's show(although not as much as I used to). My biggest complaint actually is how much time he takes off these days. I know he has a family now, but so do most people who work on radio and television. It just seems like he has guest hosts on his show a lot more than he used to(not that it sucks when Jay Mohr subs for him, but still).
