exactly what I think will happen
Agree, Lakers get a jump start on a rebuild with a showtime player who can further attract an already attractive team in 2014 free agency.

Harden penetrates just as much as CP3 does, Dwight would benefit just as much from the drive and dish. Harden arguably draws more attention in the paint, too, because he's less prone to dish off or stop and pop than Paul.

Another article says it's possible to keep Chris Paul, Eric Bledsoe, Jamal Crawford, Blake Griffin, and Dwight Howard on the roster, by dumping Jordan, Butler, pick for nothing.

Whether he does or doesn't (which, I would agree with you on that) I was factoring leadership ability and defensive ability as well. Not just offensive compliments to eachother. Dwight would erase some of Harden's defensive liabilities, but CP3 wouldn't be putting Dwight in situations Harden would.

It's arguably the reason why Harden is not a top 5 player already.

The clippers are far from being over the apron. I just saw a tweet from coon this morning indicating lakers can participate in sign and trade as long as they aren't the receiver of the signed and traded player even if they are over apron.

Griffin definitely has the bigger upside. I totally agree with bill Simmons that Blake went from the most overrated player in the league to the most underrated. People are disregarding him like he's a bust during this last season. Dwight back injury and his performance in his last two seasons draws some concern and this deal can very well turn into yet another example of lakers taking advantage of clippers when its all said and done. But at least cp3 will be happy...that is until he starts playing with Dwight and finds out how much of a flake he is.

Griffin might be the most overrated player in the league.

For next season, this trade works for both teams. Assuming the clippers get Kevin Garnett and paul pierce, kg can fill the pf spot and the clippers look like this:

    Pg: cp3
    Sg: Jamal Crawford/Jason terry
    Sf: Paul pierce
    Pf: Kevin Garnett
    C: Dwight Howard

The lakers can go ahead and move pau gasol to center. Their lineup would look like this:

    Pg: Eric Bledsoe/Steve Nash
Sg: Kobe (maybe martell Webster while Kobe is out)
    Sf: metta world peAce
    Pf: Blake griffin
    C: pau gasol

This lineup is not bad and the lakers would only have Blake griffin, Steve Nash, and Eric Bledsoe on the books to go after free agents in 2014.

I bet if this trade goes down, the espn headline will read:

    "Lakers land Blake griffin"

    I'd take griffen over dwight.

Girffen is 3 years younger and has much less mileage on him. Dwight's been playing for 9 seasons, Griffen only 3.

Griffen's going to be a 20-10 guy the next 7-8 seasons and won't bring any of the drama that dwight does.

As of today, including injuries, James harden is a top 5 player

    best in their position
    pg) cp3
    sg)Harden
    3-4) Lebron
    Durant
    C) howard

am I right. so technically, these are the best 5 in the league.

so I think they take the whole dh and cp coming here really intrigues them.

If we are talking just today barring injury (ie kobe), I'd go with the following:

    Pg: cp3
    Sg: lebron
    Sf: durant
    Pf: Blake griffin
    C: Marc gasol

    Second team:
    Pg: Russell Westbrook
    Sg: dwade
    Sf: Carmelo
    Pf: Kevin love
    C: brook Lopez

Harden might be third team due to his liability on the defensive end and Howard as well due to his horrible free throws and lack of post moves for a center.

For rockets to acquire both cp3 and d12, they will need to rely on lakers taking asik and Lin in a sign and trade which won't happen because lakers are looking at 2014 free agency.

What I fear the most is:

    Griffin and Bledsoe for Howard.
DeAndre Jordan and picks for Kevin Garnett and permission to interview Rivers.
    Rivers gets the job.
Paul Pierce waived by Celtics, signs with Clippers for peanuts.

    This gives them:

    Howard
    Garnett
    Paul Pierce
    whoever defender
    Chris Paul

That seals the Western conference for 2 years at least. But if Howard and Paul insist on playing together, I think the Lakers would do everything in their power, including taking a lesser sign and trade deal, to ensure that they don't pair up in Los Angeles where they would drain the Lakers of plenty of revenues.

On the other hand, Gasol/B Griffin/Metta/Kobe/Nash/Bledsoe/Hill/Clark is a really solid team too.

It's a dangerous PR game - if the Clippers dominate the scene for a few years, things could change quickly for the entire Lakers franchise as a brand.

Highly unlikely scenarios, but who knows.

A hleahty Dwight Howard is superior to Griffin and it's easier to replace a 4, especially if KG is already heading over, but with Howard's latest injury concerns I might think twice before pulling the trigger. Then again Griffin has injury concerns as well.

Since Paul may be forcing hands I'm not sure it matters what the Clippers think internally.

The more important aspect of this is on the Lakers side, do you take Griffin and Bledsoe if you're losing Howard over any potential Spurs, Rockets or Mavs deal? Of course you do. Especially if you're sitting with Griffin and cap space in 2014.

Tough cookies for the teams that covet Howard.

What I don't get is although Griffin and Harden are practically the same age, the overwhelming consensus on CF is that Harden will still have large improvements in his game and is nowhere near peaked but for some reason Griffin is already peaked?

How does a Clippers place not know that Griffin is on a 30% supermax and not a 25% max? need to add $3m there, and Grant Hill retiring doesn't remove his cap hit (takes 12 months for that to occur).
