I'd check the polls before defining myself. Then I'd double check that with daddy and the wife.

    Liberal conservative.

Liberal (economic questions and with regards to most issues).
Conservative (with regards to the preservation of certain values and with regards to security issues).

    I am a splendiferous.

Apart from that I am a form of educational/cultural-federalist-socialist-utilitarian-misc.. It is very exclusive, being comprised of me and my dog. My wife does nothing but ridicule me so she cannot be (and would never be caught dead) in my club.

I don't vote for Republicans, I don't vote for Democrats...I vote for myself (and my dog since we have to switch every two years).

I actually agree with TJ on 1-4 of his list, but I am not an anti-interventionist. Had I been alive at the time, I think I would have supported the war in Vietnam, I also would have intervened in Rwanda, and many other instances. I do not believe in moral relativism, and I think that we as the most prosperous and powerful country in the world have a responsibility to bring our ideas and good fortune to the rest of the world. I know that this makes me unpopular amongst the non-Americans of the world, but they (IMO) just don't know what is good for them.

So, in essence, 6 billion people MUST be wrong. :) I guess there are a bunch of brilliant people around the world who are just misguided.

    Thanks, but no thanks.

I’d say I’m a radical moderate. A Christian lefty, perhaps more like the Social Gospel types.
Practically, I agree with a lot of what you said Desert Scar.

    3) Pro Free Trade -- Specialization of labor has driven the world economy this far, only exception is areas of national defense (i.e. tariffs/incentives to support agriculture, steel, and select natural resources)

Ah! So that’s why the US is driving Canadian farmers and the Canadian logging industry out of business. You’re afraid we would quit selling you grain and lumber and hold you hostage! ;)

These two genuinely serious issues aside, Canada enjoys a HUGE trade surplus with the US, so free-ish trade has definitely been good for us, but it does get annoying when the US slaps these politically motivated tariffs on every few years. Now that the elections are over I suspect the softwood lumber tariffs will be dropped in a few months, or taken to the world court where Canada will win, again, but those agriculture subsides are going to do a lot of damage to our farmers. Between the American subsidies and the European subsidies our farmers are getting slaughtered.

Do you realize that that could be taken out of the British Empire's Manual on Imperialism? Or be part of the mantra for the Conquistadors? Or so many others...Do you know what the word 'jingoism' means!?!?!?!

While I absolutely deplore your attitude, SM, I do give you the credit for having the guts to put into words what many Americans feel but are too PC to voice...

See, plenty of misguided Germans, Canadians, etc. right here at CC.net. :p Even the occasional misguided American leftist vegetarian. :D I happen to think America is the best country in the world. We are number one agriculturally, economically, and militarily. When the world has problems we are the ones who they turn too. While you might think your countries are just as good, I hate to break it to you, but they are not. I think the vast majority of foreign people would be better off if America just annexed the rest of the world.

    MacBeth,

The British Empire improved many of the countries that they took over immesurably. Where would the United States be without imperialism? Nowhere, that is where. North America would still belong to the Native Americans, who were a backwords people several hundred years behind the times. Leaving people to their own devices is not always a good idea (see Rwanda, Somalia, etc.)

Have you ever actually been outside of the US? This sounds an awful lot like a 22-year-old who has never been outside of Texas, let alone the states.

As an aside, I love this country. I have no interest in moving out of it. But, I'm also not nutty enough to say everyone else is full of ****.

I was going to say good guess on my age, before I realized it is in my profile. The rest of your post is off. I have been outside the United States several times, also I have spent very little time in Texas, and then only at Dallas/Ft. Worth airport. I never said everyone else was full of crap, only that our way was the best way of all that is being used now.

Naw, It's because we have already driven our farmers and loggers out of business so Canada's were the next in line. :)

    StupidMoniker,

I agree with you about our country's successes, but that's not the whole story.

In your opinion, what is the meaning of life? (sorry guys :) ) Do you think that we are meant to earn as much money as possible, then pass on?

Many cultures, religions, people, would profess that we are here to grow spiritually, seek knowledge, love others, attain happiness, etc. Does our market economy really help us attain or even just gain insight into those goals?

who says you can't do those things in a market economy...sometimes doing those things in spite of a market economy makes them that much more special or significant
