ZRB, Thats a good point. I dont think there has been even one case since the new labor deal came out where a team offered the max after three yrs, and a player turned it down. There have been scenarios like the Clippers where teams have been too cheap to pony up, but when the team offers the max after 3 yrs under the new labor deal its always been accepted. The reason for this type of ratio is b/c it is incredibly stupid for a player to not accept the max after 3 yrs. This is guaranteed financial security, and the player would have to wait an additional 2 yrs to become an unrestricted FA. I would say the odds of Yao leaving the Rockets when his contract is up are very slim. The NBA has done a great job to ensure that teams drafting under the new labor deal can keep their drafted players if they choose to.
Bash Houston all you want buddy, but it doesn't mean you're right. Plenty of people would rather live in a more laid back, less intrusive city, where you can actually see people who have a majority of their original body parts left, and don't have to pay any state or city taxes. Or is there anothre reason why NVE, Antonio McDyess and other (including former - Horry, Steve McNair - and non-former players - Rashard Lewis, etc.) make Houston their offseason home, right in the height of mosquito season, when they could just as easily go to lala land and be glamorous? When was the last time you heard a player say he wanted to go to L.A. or N.Y. because of the increased exposure?
Uncalled for! We all feel sad and are grieving at this time . We Fans are the backbone of the Rockets and we must pull together and support our Rockets! Yes it is a Business and we must remember this fact. LIFE IN PROFESSIONAL NBA BASKETBALL is limited by its very nature.
Those of you who want to use this forum to talk about yourselves and each other, try to confine that urge to a time when there's less Rockets news to discuss.
