Using his commonsense he would select the NBA Championship as he has 10 times the chance of doing this than winning the Olympic Gold. As Yao is a logical and thinking man I am sure he knows this for a fact. Y :p

Hey, it's just unfair to ask this question. It's a decision impossible to make. There is a classic story like this. If you, your wife and your mom are on the same boat and then your wife and your mom fall off into the water, who will you try to save first?

It's a really cruel question. You'd rather you would never make a decision like that.

It's the same case with Yao.

But as a basketball fan, not a really Chinese patriot, I say let Yao and the Rockets win the championship. I never buy into the idea that associates too much emotion with a gold medal at the Olympics. Sports is a game and it's meant to be fun. It's not a country vs another. If you want to be the most powerful country in the world, do it through social development and technological advance. Sports can't help you do that.

First,I want to say I come from China I'm glad to talk with you~
In my opion,I hope Yao could win a NBA championship with the Rockets first~
All people around me also think this. So I think most Rockets fans in China hold the same idea.
In the majority of the Chinese basketball fans,a NBA is much more important than Olympic~

My English is poor~ I'll be extremely grateful if someone could talk with me about Rockets on MSN to improve my English~~

I'm surprised this poll is so close.

I would've thought this was a no-brainer, as much as the Rockets fan in me hates to admit.

Yao would pick the gold medal. Pure and simple. He'll never say it in public, probably. But considering his patriotism and his godly status in China, it's a clear choice.

Btw, I think the children/parent/spouse thing doesn't apply here. I think it's more of a "mother" vs. "best friend in the whole world" comparison.

his priorities should be to the nba, you know, the organization that PAYS HIM THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!! he needs to understand that playing for the rockets is his job. winning the nba championship is his job career goal. proud citizen or not, he's not getting paid to play injury plagued seasons that's due to him playing every single summer and never letting his body heal.

Yao loves rockets more than Olympics.
    I'm Chinese. I know Yao's heart.
I'm afraid you misunderstood what he said on his press conference. He just answered the question about the Olympics. The question is not which he cares more. He expressed more distress and regret about our playoff season.
He dedicates all of himself to our rockets. I hope you see.
His effort in every game has proven how thirsty for him to win the victory for our rockets.
Actually, we Chinese don't care the result of Olympic with or without Yao because we'll never make it.
If our Chinese fans have a choice, all of us will definitely choose the NBA championship as Yao's target. Yao is born for the Houston, all of our Chinese Clutch Fans know that.

I am Chinese but I don't think China can win the basketball gold in Olympics. At least cannot win in 2008. So I hope Yao can win a NBA champion for Rox.

I'm from Shanghai, and I agreed with you. There is no chance for Chinese Natinal team to win the Olympics even with a health Yao, but he did have a chance to win the NBA champion this year. :(

I agree with you. It seems that some of the fans who picked the NBA championship option did not pay attention to the "if Yao had to choose" part of the question. Yao is a classic "good kid" as a result of his upbringing in China. Make his mother country proud is his first priority.

If Yao can only choose one, he'd choose the medal. Any who think he would choose otherwise is just dumb.

Gold Medal for China, in China. Hands Down.

If China were to win the gold in the Olympics, Yao would most likely proceed to ruling the planet.

Being the same race does not automatically give you super powers to read other members of the race's mind or "heart".

Yes, if yao can leads a bunch of crappy players to win olympic gold, it will be so easy for him to lead TMAc to numerous rings in NBA.

first, they are not crappy players
second, vspan is a bench player in that team.
last, it is tougher for Yao to win a gold than a ring.
Miricales only happen to those who qualify for miricales.

Well, if he chooses olympic, he has a chance to win both (he could win the NBA championship with another team). So the larger question is, would he leave this team if he knew he would get a ring elsewhere?
