If we were going to lose to someone, I'm glad it was Boston ...

I agree it's way better to lose to Celtics than to Lakers. I just hate Garnett for the last dunk!! He's a coward! I wish somebody fouled him hard and better break his arm!

I dont think it has to do with him being tired. He just didnt force the issue enough even when he was double teamed. He has become too much of a facilitator. Credit the Celtics defense.

Good thread Sherlock. Pretty much everyone played poorly last night, but now we can regroup and keep moving forward.

While I agree with you Sherlock that, of all the teams to lose to, Boston would be the best of the best, I was dissapointed we didn't do better. It wasn't for lack of effort, but talent-wise, it looked pretty clear that Boston was the superior team. All night, I kept hoping, waiting, for T-Mac to take over, but the superstars that shined brightest were KG and Pierce.

    Were we overmatched?

btw - was Doc RIvers the coach of the Magic when T-Mac was there? If he was, then I take a little bit of assurance that perhaps it was just better coaching b/c Rivers knows/knew all of T-Mac's weaknesses.

I would have rather lost to a lesser team than a measuring stick like Boston.

If the Sixers would have beat us then everybody would have called it an "off night" for us. When we lost to Boston, we "proved" that we don't belong in title contention.

I don't like Boston's bball. They are too boring to watch!

I don't think they are that good either. Actually, they are afraid of teams with great pgs.

Just like you I really wished that the Rockets had somehow beaten the Celtics last night. It will really boost their confidence and make them to continue the hard work and make some noise in the playoffs.

A letdown to a lesser team, or loss to someone like the Suns or Warriors would be better IMHO. It would not have as big an impact to the players like loss to the Celtics especially the way they lost.

Enough said. Now let's go again Rockets!!! Go beat the Hornets!!!!

    I don't agree.

We were without Landry. That was really big, since they destroyed us inside. Leon Powe (who?) was the difference in the game (18 points). If Landry had been there, he would not have gone off on us.

We were exhausted. I don't think the guys thought they had it in them to go 33. Once they were alone at #2 on the streak, and clearly in first place, they just didn't have the mojo, and weren't as UP to continue the streak as the Celtics were to beat the streak. This steak started, when we watched how Garnett played so fiercely every game, and had a role model to achieve this streak. Perhaps they saw more to imitate as we head to the playoffs. I guarantee you that Coach will be pointing out why they are the best (besides having the most talent ... lol ).

We were playing the toughest, most talented, best defensive team in the league, who were also totally juiced to be the ones to break the streak.

We were up against Tom Thibodeau, who was the architect of our defense the last few years. He knew us, like Golden State knew Dallas in last year's playoffs. Doc Rivers knew how to shut down TMac, as his former coach. We were out-coached on this night, not because they were better coached, but because of their inside knowledge. Coach Adelman is right, that they learned a lot from this game. This game will help prepare if huge, if somehow we ever make it to the Finals against Boston. I'm sure these videos will be studied over and over to figure out the strategies of what they did to shut us down ... of course, unfortunately, all the other teams will study them to figure out how to beat the Rockets too ... :(

There was no dishonor in this loss.

And, if the press wants to discredit it, that would be perfect. A lot of this streak came about because we had a chip on our shoulder from being disrespected, and told we couldn't do it.

That will only kick us back into gear, but at a more realistic pace, so we can gather up energy for the playoffs, when it'll be really important to show what this all meant.

I still remember, marveling at how Rudy got our team to peak at just the right time for our championship runs. It wouldn't even surprise me, if Coach held out Landry, knowing we had to slow down, in order to peak for the playoffs. He'd never admit it, but I bet Coach understands the concept of when to peak, and when to choose your battles.

It appeared clear to me after the standing ovation, and Adleman subbed out Skip and tmac the rockets had given up. It seemed more rediculous to me that Doc subbed KG back into the game than it was that KG dunked while he was in.

maybe he feared the win wouldn't look as impressive

I have no problem with them loseing to Boston. However, i am a little let down in how the team just gave up. i dont care how we lost.. every game has its problems, but givng up in the 4th was unexcused from a team that has shown to be relentless and hustle its ass off.

Nonetheless, forgetting all that, second place streak in history is something they can never take away from the rockets and as im proud of that they should too, and go on to start a new streak!! and ready for payback in finals! if all goes well =)

That's all fine and dandy, but I never said anything about dishonor or that we that we couldn't turn it around.

I said Boston should be considered our measuring stick. We see how good we are when we play the best team in the NBA. We got run out of our own buliding. We lost bad. Carl Landry could not have made up for that. We finally play someone really good at full strength (Allen can be replaced by Cassell for the most part) and we get beat. After we have been playing our best basketball of the season.

If the Hawks had come in here and beat us by ten, it is an off night. When the Celtics come in and run us out of the building, it is embarassing and shows that we are not in their league.

For the past week, I've said that I just want for us to get past the Lakers. I hate the Lakers and didn't want to lose to them. If the streak had to end, Boston's a good team to lose it to.

... and there's been no report that Landry is back. In fact, there's speculation here that he's done for the season.

you should know by now NEVER to trust *speculation* here.

    it is rarely right.

Landry will be back when they feel he is ready, and not one minute before. We haev far loftier goals than winning number 23 for the sake of the streak.
