I'm fine with letting Battier go if he brings back a superstar. That said, Battier may be getting older but he's still got a lot left in his tank. Plus, he'd be invaluable playing with the backup unit, getting the young guys to play the right way. I'm especially looking forward to him and Hayes mentoring Patterson on the fine points of defense.
I agree that we should keep him. He has been a symbol of the Rockets toughness and hard work through the years, and would hate to see him go. Although he is slightly past his prime, he is still an above average defender.
battier is our PG on defense. if he goes, RA is going to have a much harder time getting everyone on the same page defensively. plus he coaches the younger players and always hustles, despite the fact that hes glued to the kobes of the world every night. anything he contributes offensively is a bonus, and hes not a bad shooter. you dont give up a player like that unless its an awesome deal. personally, id like to see him in a rockets uni till he retires, and see how he does as a coach or advisor after that. his singing is god-awful though.
Very useful IMO. What better role model would you like around a young locker room. Ultimate team guy who does everything to win, he lives to win. Plus hes expiring so worth something at the deadline. I would say he would be valuable to ANY team
have to disagree a bit on this, if anything Scola = Bosh. i still dont get the hype Bosh generates and he seems to be waiting on LeBron to decide then he will make a decision. this is Tmac part 2 written all over it. if we get Bosh for a reasonable price then its ok but for the max or close to it? big mistake. IMO Bosh is just over-hyped right now
If Battier is traded to the Raptors, I seriously doubt he'll be waived or bought out. It would only save the Raptors about $1-2M, tops. And the Raptors could use a "glue guy" like Battier more than most teams. Bryan Colangelo knows that. If Battier gets traded over Jared Jeffries (Battier's salary is higher than Jeffries), it will be a clear indication that Toronto specifically wanted Shane. They're not then going to turn around and buy him out. You can put that idea to rest right now. False. I don't know where people on this BBS are getting this crap. It's simply not true. I don't even blame you. You're probably just repeating some false information you read elsewhere on this BBS. Trading Scola this summer would be very complicated. He must consent to any trade. Due to the salary increase he will likely receive, it is expected that he will become a Base Year Compensation player, also making it very difficult to trade him for salary matching purposes. But it IS possible to package him with other players. In fact, the larger the package of players (and total salary) of which he is a part, the EASIER it will be to make a deal work under the salary cap. Please, please, PLEASE stop disseminating false information.
Shane still plays good D, but his 3ball wasn't too good last year (at least not in the games I watched). I think he's a great person, great teammate and mentor and I want to keep him, but I would not hesitate to include him in the right deal.
I would rather trade Battier, if I had the choice over Scola, Martin,Buddinger and Hill. Battier is no longer a building block of this team. He should be on the Coaching Staff
mute point. joe johnson and bosh and amare do not want to play here. so battier goes no where by default. doesnt matter. we are not contenders with him so none of this matters. maybe in about 2 years morey will have battier/jeffries/yao/anderson/ off the books to sign someone.
yea i hear ya, but Jeffries is a really good defensive big but Shane has championship intangibles tho, ppl keep including Battier in possible Bosh trade scenarios but I dont like it he should stay IMO, besides he needs to continue mentoring C-Bud
in correcting ur spelling I didint realize the hot garbage that ensued.. dude are u a hater cuz no way we're NOT contenders if we get Bosh? wow I think ur blinded by hater-isms
