Francis didn't always play point guard either.

I didn't say anything about Francis and if I did I wouldn't campare him to Stockton. I was talking about the Stockton and Hinrich comparisons/

    Okay okay okay.....

My reason is not usual....I still haven't forgiven Wade for sinking my Kentucky wild cards in the NCAA tourney. That plus the fact that I was a fan of Kirk when he was at Kansas. He has game too.

Kirk will fit in better with what we are trying to accomplish. Dwayne is more like a Marbury/Davis/Francis kinda PG/SG. I don't think we need such a player now or anytime soon.

My point was: Not playing PG in college doesn't mean you can't be a great PG in the NBA.

I use Francis because of the irony that you, of all people here, always jump on people for saying Francis isn't a great PG.

Yeah, but my point is that Stockton is probably the purest point guard to ever play in the NBA and I wouldn't compare Hinrich, Francis, or Wade to him. Hinrich can be really good, but he will never be Stockton and there aren't many who will.

Francis is Wade-lite. Don't believe me. Check back in a few years. Francis is in the East now. No more All-Star starts for him: Kidd, Marbury, Davis, Wade, Hinrich, Billups...all East-coast boys!

    Heh! Sorry Stevie!

A few stats you forgot are Turnovers and 3PT%.

Hinrich is near 40% 3PT. As far as TO, Hinrich, 2.6 vs Wade's 3.2.

TO for Hinrich is low. Wade is higher. I don't make excuses for Wade's TO. If he was with the Bulls he'd probably still have a high TO rate. But what he does have it TIME (benifit of being a rookie). So, does Hinrich. Each of their stats will improve over the next few years.

Keep an eye on Wade's TO. And Hinrich's FG%. Both will improve in those areas. I love both of their games. And no! Wade is NOT FRANCIS! Wade has a brain!

Who would I pick for the Rox? Hinrich, hands down! He has what we need; a young floor leader that doesn't have to score to be effective (but he can if need be).

I don't think Wade will ever improve his TO's. He can't handle pressure, we saw it in the playoffs and we're seeing it in the U.S. Basketball team.

Wade will be another Francis..... As for right now, I'd much rather have Hinrich than Francis.

Hinrich is a good shooter, he can't possibly remain at this FG% for his career. He just needs to improve a little bit on his jumpshot. Look at his 3pt/FT%, they're terriffic. He can't possibly stay at 38% for his career.

As for Wade, the arguments for him are horrible. His asst/to ratio is horrendous. he turns it over way too much. You say the Heat run a lot, but if you run a lot, your TO's go up AND your assists go up. So he really should be averaging more than 4.5 assists for those TO numbers.

His FG% will go down because teams will zone up on him and force him to shoot from the outside more often, where he's terrible.

Point being: Hinrich needs to improve his jumper a little bit and work on his physique.

Wade has a ton of holes in his game.

Also, compare Stockton's rookie numbers to Hinrich's: You will find that Hinrich is right on track to become another Stockton.

As of now, if I were picking for a team, I'd take Hinrich. If I was drafting from scratch, I'd pick Wade and trade him for more solid players somewhere.

you're talking about the same playoffs where he basically carried that Heat team right?

Olympics aside, he's still a very good player. I think it's hard for a rook to compete in the Olympics after:

    1. Only having 2 months of preparation
    2. Playing deep in the playoffs
    3. Playing as a point guard coming off the bench with expectations of running an "offense" Larry Brown put in

That's why I thought it was ridiculous to have LeBron, Melo and Wade in the Olympics. Rookies can't make those kinds of adjustments in the whim.

But looking back at the NBA season, Wade proved that he can handle pressure. What kind of pressure does Hinrich have? Getting his team to the 25-win threshold?

Exactly, that's just about as ridiculous as comparing Hinrich to Stockton already. It has already been noted in this thread that their rookies stats aren't even that similar.

And after reading some of the posts, are we talking about starting our own team and picking one of these guys or are we talking about picking one of these guys for the ROCKETS? because if it's for the rockets, this is in the wrong forum.

Sure Hinrich would fit in to the team we have, but if you're going to start an expansion team (ex. Bobcats), you're going to tell me you're going to go with Hinrich over Wade because he shows that he can be John Stockton? Sorry guys but if he's the 2nd coming of John Stockton, you better have the 2nd coming of Karl Malone on that team. Stockton would be no where without Malone and vice versa.

As a rookie, Franics was better than Wade in his rookie year.

    Franics 36 mpg 18 ppg, 45% FG, 5.3 rpg, 6.6 apg, 3.9 Tos
    Wade 35 mpg, 16 ppg, 46% FG, 4.0 rpg, 4.5 apg, 3.2 Tos

Wade might be better in the future but right now he is just a Francis-wannabe.

Wade is more poised under pressure. He has a brain.

Yes. I know. That's why a lot of people are fooled into thinking Wade will be the same as SF. I'll give you this....if Wade has the same numbers his rookie year (or gets worse) as his 5th year then he'll be a sloppy, inefficient guard just like Francis. So be it.

That's why I said, just wait and see...

Some stats to keep an eye on for Wade will be his FG% and TO rate. I'd be really interested to see if his FG% stays above 45% and his TO rate drops below 3.0. That would be real progress that Francis never achieved during his 5 year "reign" w/the Rox.

I'm also interested in his outside FG% in terms of shooting (18ft range). But for that, you have to watch his games (i.e. how much his dunks vs how good a shooter he is).

Why do you think Wade won't improve his TOs, but Hinrich will improve his FG%?

So Wade puts up better numbers, became the leader on a team with Caron Butler, Eddie Jones, Brian Grant and Lamar Odom, and was one of the best players in this year's NBA playoffs and he's the one with tons of holes in his game?

I wonder if you actually were watching the playoffs Sane because while he did turn the ball over he was one of the best players in the playoffs and played amazing in the clutch.

No it wasn't. Wade was had some of the best performances in this year's playoffs. He was one of the most clutch players in this year's playoffs.

Hmm, so far this bbs would prefer a Matt Maloney clone that put up worse numbers on a much worse team, than one of the best rookies in years that carried a talent-thin team to the second-round in the playoffs. Hmmm, no I don't think there are a bunch of racists voting on this poll, no way...

Wade. Forget just looking at the numbers, he was a leader on that team as a rookie, and stepped up in the clutch. Two things the Rockets still lack after the T-Mac trade.

    Wade easily over Hinrich

I dont get the comparison of Hinrich and Stockton

if you look at Stocktons career numbers Hinrich is a pitiful

comparison Hinrich's fg% is bad by even todays standards while

    Stockton shot better than Hakeem!!
