If you could look at it from a purely basketball perspective, sure. But from a general perspective, Yao is one of the most valuable players in the league. He's not going away.
NOT TRYING TO MAKE AN ARGUMENT... All I am saying is that if you choose to tank be cautious because often times it doesn't pan out. In other words just because you have a high draft pick doesn't guarantee success. That's it not saying don't do it or do it all I am saying is if we are out of it by April develop the people you have and let the chips land where they may while letting Morey do his magic in the draft. Like Clutch said...someone between letting Madison go wild from 3 point land and playing Howard till he drops.
"Tanking" is such a negative term. I prefer to say we give our younger players more playing time, even when the game is on the line. If they win, great. If not, oh well, not the end of the world.
Think we should tank cause right now it doesn´t seem like we will reach the 8th seed in western conference. I´d prefer to aim for a higher draft pick, as this year is really promising, many good PFs/SFs that would really help our team in the future.
I want to see more Taylor and Dorsey i'm kinda high on these guys and think they need more time, the sooner the better.
I don't like "tanking," I think it could kill the spirit of a team. I wouldn't mind giving the youngsters more minutes. I wouldn't mind giving Ariza' no minutes.
We play to win. We should give more minutes to our younger guys to develop them more, but we shouldn't train them on how to tank. We need to teach them how to win.
I don't think anyone here advocating for "tanking", "player development", "youth movements", or such is saying that the No.1 pick, a Top 5 pick, or a Top 10 pick will make us a championship team. They have just understood that we are missing a true complete player, mainly a wing player, that can take over a game or carry a team in the playoffs. They have also understood that if we cannot use Tracy's massively huge expiring contract to land a player of that caliber, then we will likely not be able to get one of those players unless we use the draft to either draft that player (in which case the 1-2 yr plan turns into a 3-4 yr plan) or by using the pick as trade bait. This is not a thought of "if we have this pick we will for sure win a championship". It is a thought that our best chances of getting that player after a quiet Feb 18th would be getting the best pick we could possibly get.
I hope you're being sarcastic. It's obvious that our guys are playing to win. Coach RA is not a tank coach. Even during his rough season in Sac-town, he put together a competitive team.
Uh, no. We're 1.5 games back, as you just proved. We have 32 games left. Tough, but not impossible. The Rockets just need to keep on pushing and not stinking tank.
It doesn't matter if RA wants to tank or not he has to play the players he is dealt.DM knows what this team he put together can do so either way. we win if we make the playoffs and get a #20 pick or miss the playoffs and get the #14 pick in this very deep draft.
The problem I have is that if we make the playoffs, we will most likely get the 8th seed and that means the Lake Show. And you don't want to be on there road. So we'd be out in 5 or 6 (face it our boys would be freakin exhausted of such a great season) and have a 20th pick which sucks too.. Only bright side is that it would attract FA's, which, if we make a trade, has no sense..
This. To the Herm Edwards types around here: We can all agree that the Rockets as currently composed are not contenders. Where is it that you think the All-Stars we need to get over the top are going to come from?
ARE YOU MAD THAT WE ARE GONNA TRADE YAO FOR A KERILLENKO WHO PLAYS LIKE so bad lately i dont even know!
I wouldn't worry, Utah would be even madder to consider it. Trading a high lottery pick in a loaded draft and AK47, who is grossly overpaid but is still somewhat productive (and becomes a big, valuable expiring next season) for a chronically-injured Yao seems pretty unlikely.
