If you were offended by the pandering to race, then you must love the Democrats!! Geez, they've been doing that for about 40 years now! Do you think this particular preacher, black white or green, was insincere in his support of the Republican party?? Just because one is black doesn't mean one has to be shackled to the ideology of one party. I can name more than a few black Republicans who I love. J.C. Watts is excellent, as is the most respected man in America (according to every pollster who has asked), Colin Powell. Apparently you didn't like the message of Colin Powell...so somehow that denigrates himself in your mind. God forbid anyone ask personal responsibility of anyone!! As for your criticism of Laura Bush..come on!!! She was a schoolteacher who just happens to be married to the Republican nominee. She's not seeking office!! Who the hell cares?? Though I will note that most of the commentators on CNN and Fox News Network gave her a big "thumbs up." I thought she did just fine, all things considered. I think you just don't like the message. Which is fine.

But you've created a no win in your mind for Republicans. If they attempt to reach out to minorities then you say they're being fake...but if they don't then you say they're being insensitive.

I do agree that the media has ruined the conventions....their presence makes it impossible to carry on the kinds of debates that used to be so prevalent on the floors of these conventions years ago. The animal has evolved and it's not nearly as much fun anymore. I do agree that it's "made for TV"..but that's no different than what you'll see from the Democrats.

Just wondering if it was sad when Clinton pretended to be conservative to get elected...

The Democrats have been doing it for 40 years and get the black vote everytime. They are not trying to fake it like the Republicans.

Look, I am trying to be as open as possible. I don't care about none of these anal retentive idiots, to be honest.

But I have the same problem with Clinton when freakin Clinton had LL Cool J rapping at his Inauguration!! Its all for show and that is what irks me the most.

And it doesn't help that Chaney voted against HeadStart and against Nelson Mandela referendums.

Gore is a jerk. Bush seems to be an idiot. I like Colin Powell still. I would vote for him because he has good ideas. Last night, he bombed. Thats just my opinion. But,I am 29 with at at least 75 years of this garbage coming in my lifetime. No wonder nobody votes. Its because of sh*t like last night, patronizing and staged garbage. If you want to reach out to minorities, take your ass to my old hood in South Houston and reach out to the real people who are suffering despite America being so rich.

How many Republicans have you seen in the inner city? I can count them on one hand. I saw Clinton in Harlem TWICE this year alone. I saw Gore in Harlem. I saw 12 Democratic senators appear in Harlem to raise funding to rebuild the inner city and your buddy JC Watts was invited and he blew them off!! He was all over CNN for that last year, especially on the show Crossfire.

Give me a break with this fake garbage already. Yeah, I might already be closed minded on the Republicans. You might be right. But the Democrats are either going to be so bad that I have no choice but to vote for no one, or are going to be barely good enough that I will vote Democrat and hope for the best.

It looks to be a no win situation if you ask me.

They wouldn't have been there if there hadn't been a camera.

If that was the case, Freak, shouldn't Republicans stop by and say hi?

By the way, isn't there a camera everywhere politicians go?

Bill Clinton was the best republican president we've ever had. [IMG]

I appreciate Colin Powell's influence on the republican party. Mind you I did not watch the show last night (making any of my comments weak), but on review on msnbc, fox and cnn it sounded as if he was playing his power, by trying to convince the republicans to open up dialogue w/ the inner city.

He does make me wonder about the way in which we associate ourselves w/ a given party. "Conservative Democrat", "Liberal Republicans", all of these terms are hilarious and seem to convey an ugly truth: We're watching Coke vs. Pepsi again.

What differentiates a republican and a democrat? Heroes? I do not think that it is philosophy anymore. Modern day candidates determine when their constituents were last harmed, and they correspondingly choose the opposite party.

In SLC, the current mayor went from hero to moron in less than a month... I expect a moderate Republican to be on the scene next term.

I'm just saying they wouldn't go there unless it made them look good in some way. Visiting Harlem would also make the Republicans look good, but they would probably rather use the time to spend it with their own constituents. This is true for both sides.

    Not to be argumentative...

But, lets say the Republican party is actually trying to get across a new message, and its not just a charade. Obvioulsy, the best place to do that would be at the convention. So, the place wouldnt be the problem. But how would you suggest the party go about doing that? Lets say, they wat to change a bit, and try to attract more black voters...how would you suggest they do that? Certainly not by NOT showing black people. I cant tell if you think its fake becuase of the way they did it or if you think its fake in the first place and thus wouldnt like any way they would try to get a new message across.

Anyway, I dont consider myself a republican or a democrat but I always find it interesting to see what other people think about the subject.

Wow, that's what Democrats have been screaming for the past 8 years about Hilary and Chelsea when they were raked over the coals by just about everyone.

Not when someone's 13 years old JayZ. That's crossing the line.

And if Laura Bush or Tipper Gore want to give their husbands advice on whatever when they are in office, more power to 'em.

This argument is ridiculous. Hillary holds herself out as a willing public servant. She's running for Congress, for God's sake!! Laura has absolutely no political ambitions. When George asked her to marry him she said she would as long as she didn't have to give any speeches! She's a reluctant participant giving a feel-good, token convention speech. Ease up.

Why, because she wasn't a first lady who did nothing but token appearances? People aren't used to that, so they turned into "Impeach Clinton, and her husband too" crap. I've never heard a person more hated than her in recent memory.

As for Chelsea, that's just sick. I remember watching Rush Limbaugh saying "We all know Socks in the White House cat, here's the White House dog" and him holding up a picture of a 13 year old girl.

    That's horrible.

If we wanted to vote Hillary in the office we would have. There are otehr ways she could have been productive as a first lady. It has nothing to do with the AMerican people not knowing how to react to an aggresive first lady. We have had those before.

And if you have never called someone ugly before than Im shocked. Chelsea is ugly ugly ugly adn Im a horrible horrible guy for saying it. Everyone here really takes things too seriously

Uhhhh, let's play this game again:

    George Bush is an idiot.

Isn't it cute how partisan politics makes everyone look like a hypocrite? But ohhhh.... the mudslinging, the 'personal destruction'... he hurt me with his wooords.

In related news, the RNC has gathered every politician that Bill Clinton ever defeated to speak on behalf of George W. Bush.
