I do see a huge difference. The people who do those things are terrorists, and GW Bush and the u.s. are supposed to be the beacons of freedom and justice in the world. Do you see the difference? I have posted threads about suicide bombings, and have always advocated wiping out terrorists, terrorism as much as possible. I do hold GW Bush and the U.S. to a higher standard than terrorists. I have rarely if ever bashed the military in general though. I have bashed the leadership, and the leader of this country, plenty and they deserved it. I will keep bashing them until they start to make changes. I am a strong supporter of the military, and have family in the marines, and friends in the army.
Wow, so many of you just don't get it. Who cares what they wanted? You shelter terrorists that murder thousands of Americans on American soil and you better damn well expect a visit from the U.S military. We didn't go over there to be liberators. We went over there to seek out and destroy our enemy so that they couldn't sucker punch us again. I already said what happened to the taxi driver, IF thats what happened, is horrible and a tragedy. Stop being ignorant and take the time to read before you post. Nowhere did I say it was acceptable or correct, I said it's understandable that innocent people get sucked into this and killed.
Whether GWB made it happen or the devil made it happen or bad apples make things happen. When any American does things like this it is a dark blot we all bear.
I utterly disagree. Innocents dying in war to a bomb or a battle is one thing. Torturing someone to death in captivity is another. Not understandable ever. Goddam the hypocrites trying to justify it.
I think that's key. I'm not willing to tar all of America, and I'm hoping Batman's just off his meds when he declares that he's ashamed to be American and that we 'deserve'(?) to be killed. But the WH has certainly set an environment where these types of incidents are likely to happen. Again...even if they're 'isolated' (and there seem to be a lot of such isolated incidents), or if they're not the direct doing or command of the higher-ups, a culture that condones this type of stuff has been set. Or certainly it has not been discouraged. Sort of like when the Catholic church allowed a culture where priests were molesting boys. It didn't negate the good and genuine work the church may have been doing, but it certainly was not acceptable and tarnished their authority tremendously. And now they're paying through both lost credibility and financial compensation. Here, it's even more extreme, as the relaxation (or disregard) of standards appears to be deliberate. This is truly shameful. We can either glean over the details of each case, or dismiss them as unfortunate anomalies ...but regardless of the spin...underlying it all, leadership, which in the end means the WH, simply has to take responsibilty. Is this what the war is supposed to be about? If your answer is 'no', that it has some higher purpose, then you should be discouraged that it's being reduced to this.
Batman, once again you attempt to DISTRACT from the good that Americans are doing in the War on Terror and you shine the light on the negative. Your comment about "deserving it" is sick. No innocents deserved to be attacked by savage terrorists. Period. Your comments in this thread are treasonous. They really are. You should be ashamed of your latest tirade.
Sympathy for the terrorists --- It's the only way they can win, and the liberals do their best to make it possible. Fonda and Kerry pioneered this form of 'enemy attack' back during Vietnam. All the terrorists need to do is wait for enough bad press and then the Americans will pull out. It's a propaganda war being fought ON AMERICA BY LIBERAL AMERICANS. It's aiding the enemy and giving them comfort. Batman, you have done this. You are despicable.
Why the hell are you even comparing 9-11 to this event. Take it as a case by case thing. 9-11 happend. Ok , horrible, we all agree. Horrible. Now these tortures happen, Instead of all agreeing that this is horrible and pathetic, we say THEY STARTED IT? wth. WHO THE HELL IS COMPARING? The Fact that any human does this to another is pathetic.
i'm not saying i understand it. but whether you can understand it or not...you can't justify it. i agree.
What we are seeing is the strength and advantage of terrorism. They emerge from the civilian population to wreak their havoc and it is just inevitable that innocent civilians get caught in the dragnet to stop the process. Ironically, in the inevitable mistake that is made they manage to create distrust and hostility toward the protectors of the people who in some few small ways become the destroyer. It's a helluvan advantage.
of course it is. if you believe your cause to be good/pure/whatever...then you have the burden of showing that it is. when something like this happens, it calls that into question. America isn't being judged by an unfair standard. We're being judged by the standard we've set up for ourselves. That's fair.
But don't you think that the terrorists believe that their cause is good/pure/whatever? Not only do they aim to do these things with impunity, they expect a "heavenly" reward for killing 32 children who are attending the opening of a neighborhood water treatment facility. Exactlly where is this standard set by us for us? If there are failures to meet the standard, why the impulse here to throw the baby out with the bath water?
What's truly despicable is your continual and ready betrayal of American values. You and your compatriots are corrupting all that is good and admirable about this country.
This is war. You don't extend values to people who try their best to kill you. What, are we supposed to give coffee and cake to these guys and play Chutes N' Ladders with them? These are savage beasts that have furthered the terrorist cause, if not been terrorists themselves. They deserve to be killed. Torture is getting off light for these killers. Why the liberals are their best friends in this war is beyond me. Really it is. The liberals' sympathy and their constant harping on bad news distracts from the war effort, aids and gives comfort to terrorists, and serves as propaganda for the terrorists that weakens our troops' mission and endangers US LIVES. Can't you see this?
I'm confused. Crimes were commited and those who commited the crimes were arrested. How does this reflect poorly on America? Are we somehow supposed to see into the future and arrest the soldiers who are going to step over the line, before they actually do anything wrong?
1. Yes...I know they think that...but they don't produce fruit that evidences that. 2. I'm not making broader generalizations about war on terrorism or anything else. I just refuse to look the other way when crap like this happens. If you don't hold people accountable for this, then you sink below any standard.
Values aren't something that you can extend at will to people who kiss your ass. Values are something you live by, or I should say that people with values live by. An innocent taxi driver is not a terrorist. An innocent taxi driver was murdered by the U.S. Your other pitiful attempts to be funny by claiming liberals love terrorists aren't really funny in this case.
