I eat a ton of fruit and veggies each day...but I prefer to have some of my protein sources come from meat. There are valuable proteins, fats, and minerals in many different foods - to restrict yourself to vegetable sources may not be the healthiest choice.

Just one example are the omega-3 fatty acids in salmon (mmm...salmon on the barbecue). Another thing to think about is the different types of proteins - say casein versus soy. There are some who say that soy protein for men is detrimental to building a manly body because it upsets the testosterone/estrogen balance in favor of estrogen.

All I'm saying, is read various sources and do your own research. However, if you eat a balanced diet and exercise, you'll probably do all right in the end. =)

lol. Of course it took far fewer cases of poorly driven Audis to ruin that companies image in the 80s. And of course, this is simply a precautionary measure. You know... wars on everything. *Wild*. *Sensationalistic*. *Evil bacteria*. *Be afraid*.

A couple of other random notes:
    a) poor friggin' cows. If you're going to be slaughtered for food... at least your utility should be fulfilled... instead you're just a poor b*stard that had your throat cut while still sentient.

    b) playing with Brian's structure made me realize that we, in general, discount that reasoning... right? It's cute and everything, but it's typically used to 'awww, whatever' a guy... particularly when it comes to something as traditional as cowboys and steer.

    for example, noone ever wrote:

Holy ****, ~3000 people died in New York?

How many were killed by lung cancer last year...?

Well, in 2000 it was 160,000 people.

but anyway... I prefer to live by the line: if god didn't want us to eat animals, then why did he make them out of meat? LOL. (well, I'm a wus... I live by that line with non-mammals)

Gutter Snipe -- Good point on the omega-3. Essential fatty acids are often overlooked by both vegetarians and carnivores alike. I make sure I get mine by adding a teaspoon of flax seeds to my morning smoothies and by eating a handful of raw nuts during the day (that way I get my omega-6 as well).

As far as soy making men less "masculine," I haven't read anything about that. If I were a guy, I'd probably be a whole lot more worried about all the estrogen-based bovine growth hormones coming from my meat and dairy intake. Actually, too much estrogen is not good for women either.

But, as long as you stick with cold-water fish you should be fine (as long as they weren't swimming in heavily polluted waters, but I digress...) :)

That picture of the girl in the background kinda made me hungary for a pork tenderloin.

In other words, no lettuce bikini will ever make me turn down a steak. Mostly because I know she'll never ask me to eat it off.
