I would take Scola over Landry because Scola is more consistent and relies less on his athleticism to get his numbers...in other words, he can play through injuries a lot easier than Landry can (other than lost teeth). I'd also take Battier over Ariza as I am not sold that Ariza has the best attitude. I think Battier brings more to the locker room that more than makes up for the small upside Ariza has over him.
Great poll Clutch. As tough as it was to do this poll, I went with: Brooks, Landry, and Battier as the keepers
lowry/scola/battier i love landry, brooks and ariza but they have much better trade value to get us a star
just curious - if you trade AB, who's going to space the floor for Yao? or are you thinking the star you get back would be a perimeter player?
Lowry/Landry/Battier Battier vs. Ariza, I'd take Battier in a nano second. Landry vs. Scola is a tough one, I'd take Landry purely based on age. I'm going to miss Scola's toughness. Brooks vs. Lowry, Brooks is a better scorer, Lowry is a better point guard. I'd take the better point guard if I had to choose. You can't go wrong with either one.
A diabolically difficult poll. We don't know who we'll get assuming Morey makes a deal, so it's hard to decide the best fit going forward. Anyway, here goes: Brooks/Lowry - Love Lowry and don't want to lose either one. I'll be swayed by Calvin Murphy, however, who said some amazingly complimentary things about Brooks the other day. If you haven't read his comments, do so. He convinced me. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=180656 Scola/Landry - As Clutch already said, the toughest choice. I'm going with the most consistent, durable player, who's style of play and record tells me he's going to be around playing at a high level for the length of at least a 4 year extension. Love Carl, but he's not as good defensively, not as good a rebounder, is not as big, has been having a lot of trouble with defenses lately, and I'm going based on Yao being back. Scola is a better option next to the big fella, in my opinion. Landry has a lot of trade value re his contract and production. We can match any offer Luis gets this summer. Battier/Ariza - Battier. I've been disappointed with Ariza's game. While he's got a good basketball mind, Trevor doesn't strike me as the sharpest player on the court. He's on a good contract and should be a good trade chip for a team that needs his skills and wants value at the 3 spot, his natural position. Shane is like another coach on the floor. With such a young team, I've come to believe that he has a lot of value beyond his production. His contract is an expiring one next season if he's still here. He may also go in a deal before the deadline, in which case I'll say good luck, best wishes, and come back as an assistant coach when you call it a day. I don't like this poll!
I would keep Lowry/Scola/Ariza Battier is on the decline, and while Scola might be too, his game does not rely on athleticism at all. Additionally, Scola is a better compliment next to Yao, and with both players' windows closing, it is even more important to keep them together for a last run in the playoffs. Thus, Scola and Ariza. I would actually keep Battier over Ariza if it was Battier from 2-3 seasons ago, who was already very polished in his glue guy/perimeter defender role. But, I believe our production from SF has simply not been enough the past few years and am hoping Ariza brings a new look to our SF position. Brooks is a SG in a PG's body. If we get Iggy/star scorer, we have plenty of weapons on our team next season that we don't need Brooks. Lowry has shown his playmaking abilities are superior to Brooks. Besides, obtaining a star player will probably require Brooks to be part of the trade anyways. Trade Landry for a backup PG/rookie PG.
I have to admit I voted too quickly and went with the players who have a little more value to the team now as opposed to what they can fetch on the market. This thread reminds me of "The Blues Brothers". Clutch is Cab Calloway getting the audience juiced up with "Minnie the Moocher" (high-dee-HIGH-dee-HIGH-dee-HO, high-dee-HIGH-dee-HIGH-dee-HO) waiting for the Blues Brothers (the big splash trade) to arrive. It's a good distraction. Truth? Landry has higher trade value. You have to love the guy. He's taken a bullet and given his teeth for the team. But you can bet teams are really asking about him. Teams that trade for him would have one more year of value before having to re-sign him. Aaron? Love the kid. But he's still more speed, less brains. He'll get there, but if you keep him in Houston, your shooting guard better be a good passer and defender. That's where Iggy comes in, I think. Ariza? He's been improving lately. I don't know if Morey would trade him so quickly unless it's part of a deal that yields a Bosh-like player. And he doesn't have the mileage on him that Shane does.
went with Brooks, Landry, and Ariza from a pure production standpoint. Of course these are the guys that could potentially land a star, so you never know.
Brooks- Budding into an all-star point guard. Landry- learning to impose his will in the paint. Also becoming an all-star caliber player. Battier- best 1v1 defender on SG's and SF's in the league, nuff said.
I'd expected there'd be a lot more Lowry, Scola, Battier votes out there. I think they're more of the hard-nosed, complimentary types that would mesh well with a smooth-shooting SG and Yao. But I guess if we don't get a potential scoring machine to replace TMac at the 2, then I'd might be more inclined to keep either AB or Landry. Brooks, Landry and I guess Ariza are the better individual talents, but in my opinion, even better trade bait... in order to obtain more undervalued guys like Lowry, Scola & Battier!
Brooks = 319 Lowry = 84 Ariza = 193 Battier = 210 Scola = 94 Landry = 309 Total 403 Votes So it looks like most fans are choosing Brooks and Landry hands down. It seems like the Ariza and Battier decision is the toughest one. It surely was for me. I just thought it was fascinating to see the trends that are being set so far into this poll. It is interesting that most of us want to keep the players that get the most positive hype/discussion/media attention. I can understand wanting to keep either Brooks or Landry. But I'm wondering if people are putting enough consideration into their respective trade values. If we trade these guys, of course we're going to get back someone that is currently better as we'd be trading away young players with upside. That's just how it works in this kind of market. I also find it funny that I chose exactly the opposing player from the consensus here. At any rate, this is a great discussion (and a better distraction from the most popular thread themes as of late).
Ariza gets 52% of the votes amongst respondents who selected Landry over Scola. Only 34% for those who selected Scola over Landry.
A no brainer Brooks, Landry, and ariza are all players you can win now with and in the future Scola and Battier only fit the win know, in which our goal seems more about the future. Scola and battier will probaly be retired in a couple seasons anyway or riding someones bench like they should now
