james should start , not francis. he is better at catch and shoot, and defense. we need francis in every minute TMAC is out.

Garbajosa is another player who came in from the Euroleagues and contributed right away for the Raptors. He's a couple years older than Scola, but both have had significant Euro experience.

I predict Scola will be in the starting lineup very quickly.

I went on Rockets.com the other day and they had a picture with all the players... coincidentally the five player in front... are

    Steve Francis
    Bonzi Wells
    Tracy McGrady
    Shane Battier
    Yao Ming...

interesting huh? Maybe its a hint of the starting lineup coach Adelman is considering.

    I see your point. Oh, wait -- I don't!

Let's see... Yao, Dirk, Hakeem, Motumbo, Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Ewing...

    You, sir, are [IMG]

You have to get a PF who is at least a scoring threat. That's the whole point of why Chuck is not a starting PF. Yes he can cut to the basket and hit a layup, but his jumpshot does not exist. Until he can hit a 15 ft jump shot ala J-ho he is a liability on offense. Adelman's system requires good passing and scoring ability from evey player on the floor to work.

If Chuck is on the floor with Yao and Yao is in the low post Chuck's defender will be in Yao's lap. Scola has shown the ability to hit a 15 ft jumpshot in and that's why he should start a head of Chuck.

I meant rookie foreign players. Sorry I didn't clarify.

There is a new coach and Adleman isn't Jeff vangundy. Hayes will not be starting if Adleman is the houston rockets head coach. Adelman doesn't like dirty work players unless they can be some sort of threat offensively. Adleman is a offensive coach first, he's like his brother mike dantoni but better. Plus scola is already accustome to playing in a system that is similar to what Adleman is bringing to the rockets. In adleman's system the big guy's are required to make plays and if they can't then his system has no use for making tracy and yao's life easier or taking the rockets to the next level of competition.

Not everyone on the board has a man crush on a guy that makes Caldwell Jones look like an Offensive jugernaut. Not saying you do but there are a lot that do. Most of those people looking for Scola to start realize that the main help defense that comes onto Yao comes off of Hayes and the rest sags in his lap off of Rafer and bogs down the offense. They are hoping defenses will have to play the Rockets honest without Reefer and Hayes in the lineup at the same time. I am sure this is one of the ways Rick is going to make things "easier" for his two stars is actually putting players on the court who have to be gaurded. No offense to Hayes (or from hayes for that matter), but, he should be an energy replacement guy off the bench and should never, under any circumstances, be allowed on the court while Rafer is in the game. Hopefully, we won't have to worry about that in a few weeks as Rafer docks his ship in another port of call.

Once again. I need to clarify. I am specifically talking about players like Spanoulis, Oberto, etc... Low draft picks.
Parker? You got me there. I am still sticking to my guns. I guess if the Spurs drafted him then maybe he can contribute right away. I just can't bank on it like the majority.

In other words, Scola is to you as Brooks is to me.

Okay, now you're making sense. Still, I'm willing to bet that if you went back over the last 4-5 drafts, the percentage of low draft picks who had an impact would be roughly the same regardless of what country they come from. Sure, there are a lot more US-born low picks who make an impact -- but that's because there are significantly more low picks who were born in the US.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily consider the '07 edition of Scola as a low pick. Had he been available for the draft this year, he likely would've been a top 10-15 pick. He's not one of these Boki/Dirk/whoever types who's very young and has 3-4 years of foreign pro league experience. Scola is a mature player with a defined game and what, 8-10 years of pro experience? HUGE difference.

I'm not saying he will be the starter over Hayes, but it's a very likely possibility, especially by the middle of the season.

Adelman has a long track record as an NBA coach. Go back and look at his history and give me the list of guys with no offensive skills that have been starters for him. If you bother to check, you'll see that he goes with guys that have the ability to score. I'm too lazy to look it up, but off the top of my head I can't come up with one guy that started for Adelman and was as bad an offensive player as Hayes.

From the Sactown days, Christie was primarily a defender, but he was light years better than Hayes on offense. Christie never was an elite offensive player, but he did average 16ppg one year.

From the Portland years, it would have to be Buck Williams, but he was a former 18ppg scorer. His problem in Portland was that there just wasn't enough shots available with Drexler, Duckworth, Kersey and Porter also on the floor.

Adelman has coached two different teams that were loaded with talent and high scoring. Neither of those teams utilized a guy that had no offensive skills, so why do you assume that Adelman will suddenly change his ways? Isn't it more likely that he'll do the same things that he's had success with in the past?

what about reboudn opportunities in the NBA versus the Euroleague?

would it be fair to argue that there are many many many more bricks in the NBA than the Euroleauge?

    I like this lineup.

we're keeping rafer until a good offer come along. until then he will be the starter getting close to 30 mins a game.

top 10 NBA teams in FG% is 46% to 44%.
top 10 EURO teams in FG% is 58% to 51%

also, the top scoring EURO teams score 84pts a game
NBA has many 100+ pt games.

So the Euroleague has lower scoring games where there are less attempts
and usually more than half of those limited attempts go in the bucket.

NBA has an approach of high scoring games with many clanks. the NBA was
    been criticized for its brickfest.

So perhaps comparing NBA rebound totals to Euro rebound totals are like
    apples and oranges.

If 2 rebounds = 4 points, then Scola can average two fewer rebounds per game than Hayes and we still come out waaaaaaay ahead on Scola's scoring average as opposed to Hayes' scoring average.
