sorry if i wasn't clear. but since 06-07 season up until now, we are tied with the spurs in w-l records. take it for what it's worth, but i don't think they are a terrible team for us to play against in the postseason.

since td is not as dominant as he used to be, yao can contain or largely offset his impact. that's something not every team can say with confidence. our back court combo certainly can match up with parker/mason/finley/manu. bruce bowin is too old now. the only thing they might have on us may be experience. but again it's not like our team hasn't been to the playoffs in recent years, either.

but maybe tinman was right. we'd better face a "light" team in the first round - just to get the monkey off our back first and that will boost the confidence of all our guys. my favorite would be the mavs or the nuggets. the blazers ain't bad, either.

our 4th quarter this year isn't all that bad. we're 25-5 or something like that when we had the lead into the 4th.

You can't go by just win/loss records without looking at the teams as a whole, how they perform in the post season, how they play against certain teams, etc. San Antonio is by far the most seasoned and tested team in the league -- it's not even close. Their M.O. during all their championships has been brutally efficient basketball, great defense, great coaching and performing well when it counts the most. Ask Phoenix what having comparable or better win/loss records means or how that has paid off for them throughout the years. In fact, the Spurs own the Suns so badly that Steve Kerr risked destroying a top five team and offensive juggernaut to execute the bizarre Shaq trade specifically to try to find a way to beat San Antonio. Point being: they can drive you mad with how good they are.

They're extremely intimidating with their flawless execution, incredible coaching and ability to impose their will on teams. Trying to score on the Spurs during the last two minutes of a game is traditionally a veritable hell. And finally, the Spurs have a pattern of winning championships every other year. According to that pattern they're due for another (as scary as that thought may be). I don't want any part of them in the first round, at least.

Tinman is absolutely right that we should hope to steer clear of the Spurs and Lakers in the first round. It's not that they're impossible to beat and I don't think we can beat them, we just need to worry about shedding this first round 'playoff monkey' before worrying about the elite teams. Winning a playoff series can be an enormous confidence booster. Maybe we can win a series and develop some killer swagger. Maybe we can carry that into a potential showdown with LA/SA and stand a fighting chance. I have confidence....just not right away in the first round. Not with that 13-year drought still on everybody's mind.

No, nothing can beat the first one, it's always the best. Without the first one, there is no second one etc. Outside of that, the 93-94 one was also the best for the following reasons:
    - 15-0 start with the 15th @ NYK who we meet in the playoffs, was it fate ?
    - 22-1 start with the 22nd in a very spectacular fashion with Maxwell tying it and winning it with a BB. The whole team ran towards Max and Worrell was going nuts !!! You will never see anyting like that again
    - Olajuwon was the MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive player of the year --> never done before and will never happen again so again very special
    - 93-94 was the year Clutch City began with the amazing turnaround Game 3, wherein another turnaround happened in the 2nd half with Maxwell's 31 points, and the team had been clutch all year.
    - Finals was a hard fought battle with a dazzling game 7 as opposed to the sweep in 95 which was decided before it even started. They did score a lot of points and win a close game 1 but in 94 every game was decided in the 4th, most in the final minutes, and every game was a hard fought battle.

Now I got to give credit to the 95 playoff run beating the top teams and of course Olajuwon's dream performance against the Admiral but overall the whole 93-94 season was much better. 94-95 did start with a 9-0 run but the rest of the season was really up and down. In 93-94 the Rockets were a scary team and just had (one of the) best season(s) ever. In 94-95 only the playoff run was really special, but even then they missed two of my fav Rockets of all time and great contributors to the seasons following up to 94-95: Thorpe and Maxwell.

Nothing beats the 93-94 Championship season
