He gets on the all star team for existing? He has been below his averages and his team has a bad record. It would be crazy if he is an all star. Legacy all stars are why the nba ratings are down. They prop up guys playing poorly and trash guys playing better than the past.

I don’t think booker should be in but he deserves it a hell of lot more than Beal. Have no idea why you even mentioned him.

I didn’t mean to mention Beal. He has no chance kd probably will start from fan vote and legacy. Beal isn’t even a starter on his own team.

Glad to see the players supporting each other. Meanwhile, here on Clutchfans, it seems people are desperate to pit the players against each other after every game.

Should Green and Şengün be among them? Their teammates think so.

“No. 2 seed, two best players on the team — that should just be common sense,” Rockets guard Amen Thompson said.

Rockets guard Fred VanVleet, an All-Star in 2022 with Toronto, said it’s a credit to their continued development.

“It used to be you used to have to have a damn near All-Star year first, and then you probably get it the next year. So I think both of those guys had great years last year and they’re following it up this year, both sides of the ball,” VanVleet said. “Big games, big shots. I mean, I think work that speaks for itself. For us to be where we are in the standings, those two guys are a huge reason for that and they should be rewarded for that.”

The Chronicle asked Green and Şengün’s Rockets teammates to make their — admittedly biased — pitches for the pair’s All-Star inclusion. Here’s what they said.

Green is averaging 32.9 points and putting up career-best shooting numbers this season, making 43.4% of his total shots, 35.7% of his 3-pointers and 87.5% of his free throws. He’s shown that he can rack up points efficiently and regularly, with seven 30-point game and two 40-point games, and is dangerous both getting downhill and beyond the 3-point line.

He’s on a real heater in the new year. Over eight games played for Houston in January, Green is averaging 30.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists on 52.1% shooting with 4.5 made 3’s per game. His scoring average this month is tied with Anthony Edwards for second in the NBA behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 33 points.

Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. said he thinks it was just a matter of time before Green unlocked another level.

“People put consistency and put expectations on people when they don’t realize he’s only 22 years old,” Smith said. “Everybody didn’t have it figured out at 22, everybody wasn’t consistent at 22. And as he gets older, the game keeps slowing down for him and is getting easier for him, and you’re consistently seeing the same thing every night.”

“He’s a year older, he’s a year more mature, he’s stronger, the game just looks like it’s slowing down for him,” VanVleet said. “When that happens for a player of his caliber that’s where you see the consistency start to pick up a little bit. But going back to maybe midway through last year, I’ve just been impressed with his defense and the way he has such a different narrative around his name than the player that you can watch on film.”

“Him just keeping it simplified and open,” Smith said when describing Şengün’s role on offense. “Man, us being able to have that safety valve, when we have a slip on offense being able to just give him the ball and let him go to work. So he’s been everything to us, honestly.”

Rockets forward Dillon Brooks said the most underrated aspect of Şengün’s game is “unselfishness and how hard he plays.”

Şengün accounts for 33.4% of the Rockets’ assists this season, more than every other player in the league except for Jokić (37.2%).

On the other end of the court, Şengün ranks fourth in the NBA in defensive win shares (2.5). His defensive rating (106.4) and defensive field goal percentage (47.5%) are career highs.

“I still think defense is the separation factor for him. The offense comes easy,” VanVleet said. “How impactful can you be defensively, and then also creating shots for the team. We know he can score. We know that he’s capable of triple doubles, reading the defense, getting more comfortable with different things that teams throw at you, how they guard him, how they guard us. It’s different on a night-to-night basis. But he’s been pretty good, obviously.”

Rockets second-year player Amen Thompson could be headed to San Francisco for All-Star weekend as well if he is selected for the Rising Stars Challenge, a mini tournament showcasing the top first- and second-year NBA players and G League standouts.

“I don’t think he has a chance, I think he will be,” Jeff Green corrected.

Thompson’s athleticism has drawn rave reviews from LeBron James, and his defensive versatility is a huge asset to the Rockets who can slot him in at any position. Thompson’s 0.385 defensive field goal percentage is the best among second-year players who have played at least 15 games.

Thompson played his 100th NBA game on Thursday night. He has a career 1077 points, 706 rebounds, 255 assists, 126 steals and 82 blocks. Dating back to 1983-84, only five other players reached those totals through their first 100 games: Grant Hill, Christian Laettner, Ben Simmons, Lionel Simmons and Chris Webber.

“It’s unreal, the energy he brings, the defensive tenacity he brings,” Green said. “The different looks he can give, being in the dunker (spot) or in transition — even now on the perimeter, his shot’s looking great. So he’s improving in every area on the floor and it’s helping us out a lot.”

Sengun is 8th on the NBA’s MVP ladder. I think the chances are very good he gets an All Star nod.

Green is going to have to dominate big time for a while to get consideration. He hasn’t even appeared on the voting tallies yet.

JG has actually made significant progress on his numbers since I posted that, which was before the Wiz game on January 7th. At the time he was shooting only 32% from three and averaging almost two fewer points per game.

At this point I actually do think he has an argument to be in the all-star game in addition to or instead of Sengun. Not sure if he's quite there, but he's a lot closer at least. I'd have him in above Brooks and Amen now.

Thank you for admitting you were initially wrong. Jalen's playing like the best player in the NBA right now, Amen & Brooks are great role players

With the way he's been playing lately, I think it's Jalen. I didn't think there was any way I'd be saying that at this point, but I'm definitely happy that is the case. Alpy has the better 4-year body of work, but Jalen is supernova now and a touch better on the season overall. Really though, both should be strongly considered.
