Me too. No regrets from me. Can never predict what would have happened. It's just interesting to think that although Mobley or Barnes have been better players than Green, that wouldn't necessarily mean we would be in a better team now Just random thoughts during the slow days of the offseason that make absolutely no difference to the team we do have
I'm still in the Jalen camp. Not that I would do it again, now that we've seen where he is four years later -- in hindsight, we'd all go back and redo lots of picks -- but at the time, I agreed with rolling the dice on the player with the higher ceiling. He just didn't get there.
I mean the jury is still out and considering he got paid role player money he might still end up a bargain.
If we have drafted Mobley, we would draft Cam Thomas over Green's friend which could make the real difference
The what if question is tantalizing but ultimately not really meaningful imo. Not knowing what would happen in the future Green was not a crazy pick at all at 2 Drafting Mobley may mean a future without Amen Thompson, but who knows, perhaps we ended up with Wemby in that alternate universe, so who knows The important thing is that we did get many bites at the apple, though not the best outcome imaginable, it was far from the worst either. I couldn’t complain having a legitimate run at the top only 5 years after calling the rebuild.
Mobley means no Sengun and no Green. No Green (movable salary) means no KD. So, we would have Mobley, but no KD+Sengun. I prefer our timeline
We'd still be hoping Amen becomes the best player on the team and trying to figure out what Mobley is supposed to be on offense. At best Mobley will be a sort of Lamarcus Aldridge type (with better D and worse O). As others have said, the real miss was Wagner.
You take Mobley...an obvious pick which we butchered. The Rockets liked Sengun enough to move up and steal him. They would have fit perfectly together. Then, you have Grimes late. (with no Green to appease) Let the chips fall where they may after that. Big men take time to develop, and we were tanking with Silas. So, our record still would have been awful, allowing for a chance at the rest. Excuses abound.
The thing about organization tanking is that when you want to tank, no amount of good players will prevent it. This is why OKC could get the 2nd pick with SGA on their roster. The Rockets could've drafted both Mobley and Jalen Williams and still be bad enough to tank. People put those bad years on Silas, but given who he was required to play, even prime Phil Jackson would just win 20 games with Garuba at PF and Nix at PG.
LOL, I remember those articles. Going through the cfans.net articles of the last few years are a hilarious activity, the groupthink was sooooo wrong.
