I know this might sound a bit crazy, but let's assume the lotto balls do us a big a favor (like in 2002 and 1984), or we do a blockbuster trade with a team that does get it with a star player like dragic or scola. Considering this might be one of the deepest drafts ever, a first pick, unlike in previous years will have a larger than usual impact on the team that picks them.

The consensus first pick seems to be Anthony Davis, and while this should be a no-brainer pick to take, in the Rockets case might not be. Think about it, we're already loaded with big men, like Scola, PP, Camby , Dalembert, Parsons, Motiejūnas, so adding another big, even though talented, wouldn't address our real needs. Our needs are at the wing, and drafting a player like Austin Rivers would satisfy that. I know that he's projected later in the first round, but this guy has the "it" factor. He has a sensational first step, sensational finishing ability around the rim, and elite ball handling skills. His stock seemed to drop during the college season, because he had to play in a conservative Duke system where his incredible offensive skills are somewhat handicapped. He's going to be star, he's too good offensively, and would contribute right away.

Extraordinarily unlikely, but you'd have to be an idiot not to take Anthony Davis.

So let me get this right.

If you had the #1 pick you would pick a guy that may not even be a lottery pick?

    Ummm no.

If you have a shot at the next superstar what you do is take him and trade everyone else at that position. If you don't want to take him you just move down...you don't take such a big reach.
