Seems plenty of talking heads already do take the Rockets seriously. Plenty of positive articles posted around here, for example.

WTF. You need to tone it down about 5 notches at least.

Of course being a fan is about supporting your team. I never said it wasn't. Reread my post.

A BIG part of being a fan is about respect. When Hakeem won, what did we as fans get? Happiness sure... But we also get something to brag about. You ever see a Houston fan talk to a jazz fan? What is one of the first things mentioned?

"Your team has no rings lol." Among other things. This is why rocket fans get angry at the thought that Hakeem only won because Jordan left. Because it is a blatant show of disrespect to Hakeem and his 2 rings... Respect he had earned through winning.

Just look at how 2 opposing fans talk to each other, it is always bragging and talking about how much your team has accomplished. If your team hasn't won much then you as a fan have less to brag about.

Just read Beadles tweets about how her spurs lost last night and you will see what I am taking about. It screams "your team won but you better respect all that my team accomplished."

Now calm down. I said it is a big part of being a fan, nit the only part.

Maybe just a little bit bmd. Now if we win 10-15 in a row, everybody will be jumping on the bandwagon train.

If Michelle Beadle is bothered so much that her favorite team looked so bad on national tv, then tell her coach to play Duncan and Gino. It certainly is not the Rockets' fault that they gave the Spurs a spanking. Btw, had we played at full strength with Bev and Jones, Spurs might have lost by 50. They just do not match well against us.

Seems like most of that is from Rockets' writers.

It may be a big part for you as a fan, but I fully and completely agree with chenjy on the first post. I care not one wit what anybody else thinks about my team. This team is and has been my team since I was a child and nothing anyone else thinks will ever change that or diminish how I feel about them.

I have a brain and I understand the game and the league, I don't need some schmuck that gets paid to talk about the league to tell me what to think...I can figure that out on my own.

If you need other's respect to be a fully functional fan of this team, then I feel bad for you.

I think the inverse will be more true though. If Golden State wins the game, the media will be all over their jocks about how they've arrived as evidenced by how they beat a streaking, strong Houston team led by 2 surefire All-Stars -- they might give us more respect in a loss than they would in a win just so they can talk up what a great victory for the Warriors it was.

Raising eyebrows, looking good, getting props and being talked about is great. Even if it's about your sports team. Smack talking with your laker friends at the bar is also just good fun. We're all just different type of fans but that doesn't make one a better fan than the other. It's them bandwagoners.

Tell that to our 2 championship runs, which certain media still try to downplay. The media will say what they want to to make dem checks.

I heard a surprising amount of respect for us on the national broadcast last night, so I think we've already made an impact. Since Golden State is one those teams that's just around our same level and has been a fast up-and-comer in the past few years, it will garner us more attention, since it's kind of a rivalry. I expect that when we have an inevitable few bad games, though, that talk will dissipate back to normal levels, and that's fine. Let them underestimate us.

I never understood this "asterisk" on the Rockets championships since Jordan was retired for 1.5 years. By this logic, every championship between 98-02 should have asterisks (MJ Retired), and every championship after 2003 (MJ Retired again) should have astriks.

So for the record, sorry Spurs, Lakers, Pistons, Heat, Celtics, and Mavs fans... all of your championships have asterisks since MJ retired...

It honestly blows my mind that people care what the media thinks about their team....

Nothing matters unless you do it in the playoffs

Not only that, But Jordan did play in that 1995 playoff run. It's not our fault he couldn't get his Bulls past Shaq and his Magic, Who we just so happened to obliterate in the Finals. Screw all those haters hiding behind their nonsense trying to make sense of the world.

And played pretty damn well according to Dandorotik!

Oh well.. doesnt really matter what others/media thinks, and we as fans should embrace it. Rockets will come out and play with fire knowing that everyone is underestimating them.

I am calm, obviously you are not. Also, I will not tone down the way I post. That's simply the way I am. Don't like it? That's what the Ignore button is for. I re-read your post again and it changes nothing in my response, absolutely nothing....zip, nil. Respect from the media is worthless. Respect from other teams' fanbase is worthless. That's not what being a fan is about at all, much less having it be a big part of it. If someone needs that sort of "recognition" then that's just pathetic. You are a fan because you love the team, plain and simple. If you need someone else to tell you how awesome your team is to feel happy, I feel bad for you personally. Just my opinion.

we could finish first in the west and people still wouldnt' take us seriously, saying we're a great regular season team but the game tightens up in the playoffs and harden won't get all those foul calls, and "live by the 3 die by the 3" and we aren't really an elite defense just pretty good and that's not enough to win championships. Then when we win the championship they'll just say it was a down year and wide open because Lebron was on a new team, OKC dealt with injuries, etc., and we just took advantage...it goes on and on. Forget the haters, enjoy the tremendous basketball!

No, we will not get any respect until the second round of the playoffs.
