Gee, I didn't catch myself on being in the wrong forum. Pat yourself on the back Dexter.

I assumed that an admin would have relocated this thread by now.

I concede I had just finished a pitcher of Ale at the time of this posting, but I felt that you guys could fill in blanks by themselves. Hmmm...

I have always called the National Guard "draft dodging", even though one had the ability to be called up. My dad and I joked about this when I was a kid (my dad joined the guard in SC). Joining the National Guard isn't the same as fleeing to Canada, but neither is it the same as enlisting for active duty.

From the documents I've seen, I've inferred that Bush pissed all over the National Guard system, as people of means are apt to do. Perhaps, SuperDexter, you can question the legitimacey of these statements (I just realized that I'm replying to Jimbo again. *sigh*).

The day that Dumbya applied to the National Guard, he was enlisted. This happened when there was a year and a half waiting list for the Texas National Guard. This happened when 100,000 men nationwide were waiting for entrance. Perhaps haves and have not stories go over well for the men who did serve, and died in Vietnam b/c their fathers weren't powerful.

Bush was assigned to a plane that was being phased out in Vietnam, the F-102. It was officially downed on June 30, 1970. Bush had finished his training for that plane a few days before. But Dexter, you know that.

Bush refused to take a physical. Drugs perhaps? Hmm...

Bush was AWOL for 18 mos from the National Guard. He was discharged from the National Guard b/c of this lack of service, but you knew that.

This wasn't my point though. My point was in the question "does he have the mandate". Thanks for your time.

Gee Dexter, I didn't say that Bin Laden had any honor. I said that he had the respect of his men.

Yeah these are all horrible things. Thanks for the tangent Dexter.

Gee, another helpful tangent. Thanks. Mmm... I like Springer Spaniels.

He believes all of the countries should come together as one nation, a Muslim Nation. He fought for his people. I misspoke.

He still fought for his people though. I'll try to pull the article (I think Finn posted it).

Gee Dex. You're literate just enough to get the basic message from my post. Yet you completely misunderstand all of my points. I would never argue that Bin Laden's wealth conveys respect. I argued that the fact that he's a wealthy man that still fought conveys respect.

Dexter, thanks for your time. I hope that our meaningless exchange was somehow helpful to someone.

The question remains. If the president skips out on duty in Vietnam, does he have the mandate to reinstate the draft? Better yet, does he have the respect of his people?

Careful. Many veterans are pissed at the notion of joining the Guard. Many more are pissed at the way in which Dubya shirked his duties and went AWOL.

What was that great quote that Rm95 blessed us with?

"You're not on my ignore list, you're on my idiot list". LOL.

Okay. Well, we at least know that Jimbo is a wart. That little girl will keep coming back, recreating bi-uids and the like. I'd imagine that he has to be a rockets fan. Either that, or just the biggest dork that I've ever run across.

Thanks for your kind words rimbaud. I was beginning to wonder if I was completely incoherent last night. I suppose it's merely a matter of my words just being too difficult for anyone outside of the academic elite to comprehend. LOL.

As long as this topic is still in the Rockets' Forum, someone needs to bring some basketball relevancy to it.

I noticed something interesting when I was looking at the FBI's most wanted list on the internet:

    FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitive

I always thought Bin Laden was this tiny little guy, but if you look at the description, it says he's between 6'4 - 6'6. I never realized he was that tall.

So, while we're discussing the Draft (in it's many and various forms): What position do you think he would play coming out of college? The problem I see is that he's a tweener, and he would either play a big 2 or a small 3. On the other hand, he is only 160(!) lbs, so he would definitely be a project. If his court vision was sufficient, and his handles, I could see a coach maybe tailoring him into a big pg, ie. Doug Christie (back when he played pg). That would be an adventagous matchup against a smaller pg if he had any kind of a post up game.

My guess: Late First, early second round. 2-3 years of development until he comes into his own, as long as he dedicates himself to the weight room. Do you think the Rockets would take a chance on him, after all, we would need a backup for Mobley if Langhi doesn't pan out.

What do you guys think? :)

I guess I was also struck by SuperKev's post once I realized he isn't a newbie-- registered in 1999 in fact... I would have thought that he might have looked at some of your other pasts, figured out that you aren't an idiot, and grasped that you must have been pretty well liquored-up for posting in the wrong forum... ;)

I trust that you didn't find yourself in any unseemly circumstances when you woke up this morning-- you didn't join the Frontier Scouts, did you?

I'm the exact same way Lynus. You are my BBS brother, and I hope you know that you have my complete respect.

I feel the same way (though I voted for Gore :)). The question is entirely academic.

It interests me that our country has abandoned its war heroes and begun electing little brat baby boomers. I write this as someone that respects Clinton's brilliance and Dubya's pm skills... but imo, McCain or Kerr(e)y (either/or :)) would have a compelling voice across the forces. Right now, the forces are reliant upon looking to their immediate superiors for a role model. I can't help but think that looking towards a McCain would create a unity across the forces and the US that hasn't been seen in 50 years.

I agree. I suppose I perhaps was trying to get a backhanded slap on the president, b/c of the intuitions I posted above. Damn, if SC hadn't slowed McCain...

Anyway, I suppose everyone will be on the same page when the time comes.

Achebe: every report I've every heard or seen tells of the restored enthusiasm and confidence of the US military coincidental to Clinton leaving office and Bush assuming office.
Can you say more about the dismay that is out there in the service branches?

Thanks for your kind words kpsta! So far I haven't enlisted. I talked the talk last night, but luckily the Marine Corps reserve didn't have a booth at the bar. :D

BTW, I think people were confused by the 'hilarious' comment. I wasn't detracting from the horrific acts on 9/11. I was talking about the trend for brat baby boomers to start leading the armed services. *sigh*

That is so true. Good thing we are both intellectual elites so that we can carry on our own conversations without the rabble understanding. :)
