And kept the players they had, but fired Mike DAntoni and hired a decent coah like Jerry Sloan, or Hubie Brown( would they have been better off). The problem for the Knicks was never talent, it has always been the coach.

    Imagine

Felton, Gallo, Anthony Randolph, Corey Brewer, Wilson Chandler, Amare, plus Mozgov, and Shumpert .........being coached by Jerry Sloan, or Hubie Brown

They blew up their team for nothing, when they should have fired that coach. Donnie Walsh did not want to trade for Melo, he wanted to fire DAntoni, but Jim Dolan would not listen, as soon as they made that trade, Donnie Walsh stepped down

but at least we get their pick

You forgot a big point: They could have signed Melo right after the lockout was over without giving up anything to the Nuggets.

Good post especially the last part. I agree the Knicks would have been better if they kept their former team intact. Everyone knew they gave up too much to get Carmelo. One of your forwards need to play defense or expect your center/team to be in foul trouble the entire game. In general forwards try to take it in before they look to shoot it, guards look to shoot then drive.

    Felton / Shumpert
    Gallo / Brewer
    Chandler
    Amare / Randolph
    Chandler / Mozgov

Very complete team, and well built. They have passing, rebounding, shooting, scoring, athletes, defense, and shot blockers.

I'm glad they failed. We get their pick :)

Melo and Chandler would have been scary.

BEAT LA, IMO, pairing Chandler with Amare was a king-sized mistake for the Knicks. At $35 million/year combined, they have no business being on the same team. Knicks should have waited and signed Melo after the lockout then signed Dalembert or some other C at a reasonable price. If they were going to break the bank for a 3rd wheel, should have been a PG.

Oh yeah, and they should have fired D'Antoni.

I agree, but NY still wouldn't have minded paying for both Amare and Chandler...it's NY. Also, I think Felton and Shumpert would have been enough to man the point.

Truth is many Clutch Fans members would have done a better job at managing the Knicks.

truth is the Knicks lack of PG is really a problem. When Baron Davis comes back even if he plays like he did last year he will immensely help the knicks.

That team can't FUNCTION without a PG.

Their offense would be sick right now if they found a way to get Nash.

D-Antoni is the main problem for the knicks right now. But they also have one more problem they don't have a passing point guard i know that Shumpert has been playing great lately but he isn't passing the ball always. For a Point guard who playes 32.5 mins a game, 3.6 assists isn't a good number. I know some of you will say "that's because he's just a rookie" well Kyrie has more assists than him which is 5 assists a game and Kyrie only plays 28 mins per game.

He's not a cancer.... He's just a chucker...But u really can't fault him for the way he plays... Look at who has coached him.... Karl and D'Antoni.... Two coaches that thrive in fast paced, high-volume shooting offenses

If you think the Rockets wouldn't jump at a chance to get Melo, you're kidding yourself BIG time.

He is a chemistry killer on a team, not in the traditional locker room cancer way like Tmac, but in a team killer way.

    Just not a winner.....

Sure he won in college - way different game where coaches control things.

Melo is a Beta Dog, a guy who thinks he is Michael Jordan, but would be much better as Scottie Pippen.

You peopleare forgetting Melo didn't want to do a contract after the lockout since he would have been stuck with the new rules. Thats why he was pushing for a trade. Knicks had a good riseing team too.

Yup, and this is what Donnie Walsh advised them to do, yet the stupidity of Dolan and the greed of Carmelo combined to torpedo what was a decent rebuilding job.

The only way that Melo would work in Houston or anywhere is if there was a stronger personality that he respected that could get in his face and get him to work harder on the floor at defense.

Because otherwise the guy is just going to do what he wants, and the team is going to always fall short because of it.

Um Karl is something ridiculous like 33-12 since the Melo trade. Melo clearly was hoding the team back.

DD is right, Melo is a cancer, you guys keep talking smack about D'Antoni but the truth is his offense works if you have the right personnel, ie not Melo. They had a decent record with Raymond Felton for crying out loud, so its not like he needed Nash to become competitive.

Agree with this. Plus if you look at Melo right now you're seeing less and less muscle definition. The more he plays the more he reminds of Antoine Walker.
