To be honest, I think all of these "what if" schticks are getting old. So what if Seattle beat up on us in the regular season? So did the Spurs in 1995- they swept us in the regular season- and boy, did they whup up on us in the playoffs or what? It's really sad that we have to waste our time with this nonsense. I've read dozens of these threads and never wasted time responding to any of them, but you have to speak up at least once, so.... Please GIVE IT UP!, you Rocket haters and nostalgians. Find a hobby or something. Nothing anyone does is going to change the fact that the Rockets were the champions in 1994 and 1995, anymore than the fact that the New York Giants are the Super Bowl champs and will ultimately be considered the better team by many than the Patriots. I'm going to say that the Rockets would have beaten the Bulls with MJ in both 1994 and 1995, and I'm going to say that we would have beaten the Sonics in both of those years, as well, regardless of what happened in 1996. Face it, we were a team of destiny, everyone had an equal shot to win it, and the Houston Rockets did it, not the Sonics, not the Bulls, nor anyone else. We had the best player, the best coach, and the best support team. And we had D-E-S-T-I-N-Y on our side. You know, you can throw whatever kind of statistics you want out there, but the glare of the Larry O'Brien trophy will make it very hard to read them. We would have won in every scenario- and more importantly, we did win. Period, end of story, finished, curtain closed, house lights on, final buzzer sounded, fat lady uttered her last note, last student walked across the stage, class dismissed.
Because the Rockets would have had homecourt throughout the playoffs. I think everyone was rooting against the Mavs last year too, right? The Rockets had a better chance of winning with homecourt... it doesn't mean they could not have beaten the Sonics.
LOL @ this 1 star thread. 94 Sonics, 95 Spurs, 2001 Mariners, 2007 Patriots, 2004 Yankees...you are all chokers.
The rox wouldn't have a ring. After the game 7, seattle beat houston 16 straight times. No answer for payton and kemp. That junk defense and their legnth was a bad matchup.
I propose that newbie Desert_Rocket be made to change his moniker for the simple reason that it is too similar to veteran respected poster Desert Scar. What has taken place here is tantamount to an undrafted rookie coming in and trying to steal Deke's jersey number
Please explain to me how they had our number in 94 when all 4 games were split with the home team winning, or when the 7 playoff games in the season prior went 4-3, with the home team winning each one? A 6-5 record in 11 games with the home team winning each one is having someone's number?
This is so true..... Much like a team losing in the semis (i.e. MJ's Bulls in 95) has no room for what if's in regards to the title that year....
I just can't comprehend how anyone can argue that a team that couldn't beat an 8th seed could actually beat the eventual NBA champion??? The 1994-1995 rockets was much better than the 1993-1994 team. Namely because Robert Horry was free from tentinitis and a rookie called sam am i am. the sonics sweep us later on but there were certain factors you had to consider: 1. Hakeem was definitely beginning to fade. 2. Clyde was playing on a turned ankle and could barely walk 3. Sam Cassel was playing coming off of elbow surgery. We weren't healthy the second sonics series. Plain and simple. I think the sonics did win a ridiculous 14 straight against us at one point - but ya know what, who cares. The fact is the sonic never showed up, and neither did the bulls. Our titles are legit. One could easily argue that the bulls were able to beat orlando the second time around because they acquired dennis rodman and because nick anderson was never the same after missing those free throws.
Desert man, i think you are playing a nasty game with people here - and as someone who usually enjoys taking the piss out of folks....and love to do that myself - i wouldn't do it in the rockets part of this board. It's just really not something a rockets fan would do. I'm thinking you're not a real Rocket's fan.
Ridiculous thread but there's one thing that can clear all this **** up: - The Nuggets are the ONLY team who could've knocked us out of the playoffs in 93-94. That's it and nothing more to it. The Sonics never had a dominant center so the Rockets would've beaten them just as easily as the Jazz. The Nuggets did have that center: MOUNT MUTOMBO + a lot of quick guys and good shooters. They forced both playoff series to the max and dominated the Jazz because of no dominant center + they went 3-2 against the Rockets. Clutch hit it right on the head: Desert_Rocket is getting desperate !! Totall K.O. by an uppercut !!
