9/11/2000 was a pretty nice time for this country. Clinton was still in office, and it looked like Gore would easily win the election. November 5th, 2000, sent this country into a downward spiral that it may never come back from. But yes, I agree. The Rockets played the Lakers tougher than the Spurs have. I've loved seeing the chumps from San Antonio collapse. They will be blown out on Saturday.
It's hard to root for other teams, even when Horry or Cassell are on them. They are halfhearted "roots." I mean, it's nice to see Horry or Cassell (his first) win a ring. But still. It's not the same as rooting for the Rox. I try not to waste too much energy rooting for other teams to win or lose. It too hard on my nervous system, all for nothing. One of the interesting things about watching other teams is that you hear commentators say, "They're done for!" Or "That team is dead"...only to see them come back. Sacramento, Miami and Minnesota have impressed me this year. Once you think they are down they come back and surprise you. Maybe the Spurs will surprise me too. Who knows?
let Malone and Gary get a little closer... the pain when they don't get that title again will just be that little bit more sweet
Obviously we'd have to trade SF for Derick Fisher because Fisher has been better than Tony Parker as of late...
I believe its about time that karla and payton win their first ever nba ring. I mean they deserve it as they are one the greatest players ever to play in their position. Malone is the greatest pf ever but i think tim duncan will dislodge him 5 years from now. Gary payton is one top 7 pg's in the game. Give them a break. They deserve it. Poor charles barkley, pat ewing and stockton. They retired never winning an nba ring. That's life.
Two of which, didn't play cheaply and dirty for their careers. Stockton may've flopped here and there, but, Malone is in a league all himself. One thing to be a cheat and have bad sportsmanship, its another thing to galavant about it with enjoyment of the fact.
not the smartes post on a ROCKETS bbs. nice post Invisible Fan. i hope the Wolves become champion. otherwise i do not care as long as the lakers do not win it
The Rockets played har against the Lakers. Harder than the Spurs.........perhaps. But don't lose site of the fact that the Lakers are also clearly playing harder against the Spurs than they did against the Rockets. It's pretty clear to me that the Lakers didn't take the Rockets seriously in the first round and since they sleep-walked and still won the series 4-1, maybe they were right about not needing to take the Rockets seriously.
Why be upset. The league is no more viable or reputable than the WWF. I keep waiting for David Stern to pull off his mask and have Vince McMahon appear. .4 seconds on the clock, a guy catches the ball turns and shoots, and its good??????? They may as well of had Ric Flair be the head referee yesterday. What a farce of a call. I've just about had it with the superstar calls and some teams getting the breaks instead of basketball being a contest between teams and individuals where the refereeing is EQUAL to both sides.
There really is something to the above poster's observation. I guess the rules say the either the sound of the buzzer or the red light on top of the backboard dictate the official end of play and Fisher barely, but clearly beat both of these with his shot. However, haven't I also heard the officials determine that 3/10 of a second is only enough time for a lob to the basket, not even enough time for a catch and shoot, only enough time for a tip? And if that's the case, how is the one extra tenth of a second that Fisher had going to allow him to catch, turn, and shoot (all in one motion to be fair)? Seems to be a discrepancy there to me.
Let him get his ring. Both him and Payton will be gone next year. If he wants to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to win a ring, then let him. Next year L.A. will be one less detour on our road to a championship.
The Lakers in the second round were definitely a better team than the Lakers that played against us, at least on the defensive end.
If .4 seconds is not enough time, the Spurs have only their home shot clock operator to blame because the ball was clearly out of Fisher's hand. Opinions are like other parts of the human anatomy. However, the bottomline is clear. The Rockets can always win more championships but you can never take back Malone's ring. Any other opinion is obviously founded in emotion because it's surely not logical. How anyone can dislike the Spurs more than Malone is more than I can comprehend. You don't have to be a Vulcan to see the correct logic here.
Actually, late in the game the referees control the clock with a device in their pocket so conspiracy theorists may have some credibility on this one. I'll say this much. The NBA goes out of its way to let everybody know that with 3/10 of a second left, you can only score on a tip in and if that's the case, I can't see how 4/10 of a second allows a person to catch the ball with his back turned to the basket and get a shot off. Personally, I think the Spurs are correct in saying there is no way Fisher could have gotten the shot off in time, but short of having instant replay ignore the buzzer and the backcourt light in favor of using the replay to determine the exact amount of time that the ball was in the player's hands I don't know how you solve problems in these kinds of scenarios. Lakers deserved to win the game regardless as they outplayed San Antonio all night long.
