*IF* the Dwight/LA trade is legit, what's Morey's plan B?

no, it doesn't mean that. Hibbert's max isn't Howard's max.
And there are no other max players on the roster. Plenty of flexibility.
If anything, I'd hope they figure out a way to add another ~10 mil big like Paul Milsap.
But probably that's not happening, and they'll they'd just resign David West.

And from basketball point of view, George can play 2, so it's fine.
The only case where it makes sense to trade Granger is it's a ballhandling wing with proper defensive attitude, someone like Iguodala, but that's obviously off.

to your 1st part; Yes, I just hope our FO doesn't feel obligated to do the whole dog-and-pony show every time a 1st tier star becomes available...well, at least not so publicly.

Sadly, I think that's exactly is going to happen to KMart. Hopefully he plays up to his old KMart self and starts showing gaudy numbers again and we luck into Portland type deal for G. Wallace and not succumb to acquiring other players in the vein of Ellis, Gay, Igoudala, A. Jefferson, etc.

Morey should honestly be fired. We ended up getting neither Bynum nor Howard. In a few years we'll once again be in this position where we have to persuade a star (i.e Al Jefferson) to come over here and Morey will undoubtedly fail again.

From the damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't files: I'd have wanted him fired if he did trade for Bynum. While it sucks to see Morey swing and miss at so many stars, some of them you just don't want to swing for.

Trade Martin for something useful. Move some PFs for something useful. Where useful=picks or young C/SG backups.

Morey should be fired because the Sixers gave up Iggy, young players and a pick for Bynum? How could we have beaten that offer?

Nah...Henny should be fired for accepting that offer but then lets give him the benefit of a couple of Moe years before we say for sure.

We do need to get rid of at least 2 of our multitude of 6'9 PFs

    Pat Patterson
    Marcus Morris
    Terrence Jones
    Royce White
    ...etc

in reality, you only had to beat Afflalo/Harrington + 2 decent young prospects + 2 late #1 picks.

Orlando is silly if they prefer Afflalo/Harrington's bad contract over, lets say, Kevin Martin + Lamb.

Then add two decent young prospects. Lets say one with some experience. Parsons. And TJones or Donatas.

+ 2 late picks. Dallas pick and Houston pick heavily protected until 2017.

    KMart + Lamb/TJones/Donatas + 2 picks.
And I think I'm being generous here. They are saving A TON of salary here compared to that deal.

I'm not sure the Magic would take this.
And I certainly wouldn't blame Morey without knowing.
And common sense says that this deal could've been beaten.

Now was Orlando using common sense, or did Houston make a decent offer lately, your guess as good as mine.

i meant one of them here. either TJones or Donatas.

Btw, if it wasn't clear, I combined 76ers and Denver deals there.
Houston realistically has assets to eliminate them both.

You would also have to take Jason Richardson, obviously, since that's what the 76ers did.

Morey will re-nact the scene from water boy on the phone with his mom in high heels.

" I hate him I hate him I hate him hate him". Morey

and I forgot to include Parsons in that final bit.... heh.
It sucks that there's no edit, especially when it's the middle of an Olympic basketball game.

    the proper version should be:
KMart + Lamb/Parsons/TJones(Donatas) + 2 picks. For Bynum and Jason Richardson.

    No worries: we'll be a first-round team by 2014-15.

Yep. My order of keep (unless the trade was right) would be:
    Donatas Motiejunas
    Terrence Jones
    Patrick Patterson
    Royce White
    Marcus Morris
    JaJuan Johnson

The other 6'9" PFs will recieve a nice consolation prize consisting of year's supply of Rice-A-Roni. Thanks for playing...

For me, this is the most frustrating thing about DM. Rockets fans wouldn't have cared about this Dwight Howard trade if we weren't bombarded with reports that the Rockets were desperately trying to acquire him.

For one of the top players in the league, that's inevitable no matter who you are. Leaks will happen regardless.

It doesn't matter what the Rockets offered; the Magic weren't going to trade Howard here unless Dwight consented to it. There's nothing Morey could have done, I'm afraid. Welcome to the David Stern's modern NBA.

The way I have decided to think about our future:

In 5 years, Howard will be nearing the end of his career. Bynum will be playing shuffleboard with Greg Oden. Kobe will be playing in Milan. Garnett, Pierce, Wade -- all retired. LeBron and Rose will be just on the other side of their prime years.

On the other hand, Lamb, Lin, White, Jones, D-Mo, etc. will all be hitting their peaks. And we'll have picked up a few other talented youngsters between now and then.

Future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.

Just not the near-term future. But hey, that's what tanking's all about, right?
