I think Danny Ainge would be an excellent choice. Hell, UT hired Mack Brown and Royal from OU. I can forgive almost any past transgressions if it would help us win.

Ainge has a certain nasty edge about him that I like.

Larry Brown: Since he has had such a good relationship with AI, I am sure he would get along with Francis and Mobley just fine.

Danny Ainge: How could anyone that has been a Rocket fan for any length of time want a man that has hated the Rockets for years, and is viewed likewise by most Rocket fans.

John Thompson: Now there would be someone to get the players united and playing togather after a few trades. The same man that had total control at Georgetown and said he would never give a scholarship to a white player. But he did have Mutombo so I guess he is experenced with foreign players.

I like Calvin Murphy and really enjoy his stories, but could he get the players to do what he is able to explain to the listeners?

With these choices I think I will continue to let Rudy coach and complain when he does something I do not care for, and think he is great when things go well. After all it has been him an CD that put this talent togather so he deserves to coach it for longer then part of a season.

    SLA,
You couldn't be more wrong about Donnie and that is a fact. He had interveiwed this past summer for the Denver job and he would have been the coach there now but Mark Cuban made him an offer that he could not refuse. Cuban promoted Donnie from assistant coach to President of Basketball operations and gave him a very large raise to keep him in Dallas. Cuban does not want to loose Donnie and will go to extremes to keep him, on the flip side Donnie wants to be a head coach and has stated so many times publicly.

Having said all of that I still want to keep Rudy.

I liked him when he coached at Princeton. He was very feisty.

Now he's just another assistant riding the pine for a easy paycheck.

Honestly, My vote goes to Larry Brown. He is a proven winner where ever he goes an plus he has experience in dealing with young players. I dont know many coaches who could deal with AI and the problems he brings, weather its the crooked cops in Philly or his mentality on "practice"!!!!!!! But somehow he has kept the ship from sinking and kept the Sixers winning. Plus he thinks the world of Steve and Cat. I seriously think Larry Brown wouldnt want to stick around for much longer and if he was presented with the right situation to bail to, he would go like Gruden left the Raiders for the Bucs in the NFL. If Rudy goes, which I dont expect to happen as long as good buddy Carroll Dawson is GM, Brown has to be has replacement.

My vote is Rudy T till he retires because if they fire him for ANY REASON WHAT SO EVER I will do the same as I did to the lastros when they let Nolen go an I will never spend another dime on the team no matter who plays for them

    For this reason....its called commitment to the team and a duty to the family because thats what a team is a {extended family}
for all of us that have stayed with the team in the good and the bad

Now look around the NBA and see the teams that have no commitments and run different people in and out are not teams that win over the long haul or do they have Rings to show for there labors........

People are always touting Calvin Murphy as great coaching material. How come he was NEVER brought in as one of Rudy's assistants? Wouldn't that have been a logical progression?

I am amazed at how so many people are talking about firing rudy...
    What had he done wrong??

Rudy decided to bring in yao slowly in the beginning... that's genius... because yao has missed the training camp, never practice with the team... and just moved to a completely new country and different culture, yao needed times to adjust.. although RUdy KNew the fans wanted to see yao, rudy did the right thing, and gave yao little min and let him slowly fit in

once yao started to have some breakout games, rudy gradually let him into the starting lineup.. Who said rudy don't change and adjust??

Then, Rudy didn't just dump the ball down to yao every times... BEcause Rudy knew yao is not used to playing that many games.. that competitive...NBA season is eternity compare to CBA.. it is crazy to so quickly make the offense goes through yao, because yao is already tired enough... Rudy is so considerate to his players

ANd rudy is also right for not playing nachbar... remember how everyone wanted to see morris last year?? everyone wanted to see LAnghi the year before last??
then, they all proved to fall short on the unrealistic anticipation and expectation. Rudy simply is giving nachbar a chance to do well in practice first, before he has to prove himself to the fans that he isn't quite ready.. and then everyone will start to say trade nachbar... give mickeal (spelling) some min instead..

Sometimes, the rockets run some stupid plays, or basically no play at all.. but do you want the Coach has to call out every darn play down the court, and the players can't play a slick without the coach yelling constantly? Rudy is giving steve a chance to be the real leader, and a leader has to make decision and direct thing
Rudy knows, the team may not know yet.. but you dont' want to have to tell them everything, you want to guide them to figure things out themselves.. it is never effective to tell people things they probably already know. Rudy is being smart... he doesn't want mediocre.. he is looking for something big.

He wants to be champion.. not just a good team... that's why sometimes rockets will struggle, struggle badly.. it is all part of the process to be the best. But if the players ever figure it out.. then they will be the best.

Well I don't know why the Rockets keep running stupid plays or basically no play at all. But if it keeps happening, then they aren't going anywhere. If Rudy can't get them to start playing real basketball then what other option does the team have than to get a new coach?

Calvin gives a lot of good advice on TV...and he's very funny. But he's too funny. And joking around is not what you want. We want a serious guy. I still think Calvin is the best commentator. He should say all the smart stuff to Rudy.

You seem like a smart guy, so I know you know Houston fans would gag if Danny Ainge was this team's coach. Secondly, Clyde Drexler proved how interested he was in coaching at UH. The guy showed up 30min before games. If he couldn't coach in college, how do you think he will do in the pros. I think people don't give basketball coaches, especially in the NBA, credit for the work they have to do, and the glide will never be known as a workaholic.

Of the coaches without a job now it would definitely be Van Gundy. Larry Brown would be great though.
