Jeff Van Gundy would not be good. He's too much of a pansy. Steve and Cat would run him out of town. What they need is a Larry Brown type coach - not a suckup to the 9th degree.

Danny Ainge would not be a bad option.

I think Rudy is a better coach on a more veteran team whose players understand their roles. Here, he's having to make adjustments on the fly, which is not his strong suit.

Did you just say DANNY FREAKIN' AINGE!?!?

So if Steve forgets to pass into the post maybe Ainge can smash him in the face with the basketball.

a small list of people who will never (or never again) be associated with the Rockets:

    Danny Ainge
    Scottie Pippen

    There are plenty of options!

Look at the list of new coaches that have done well:

    Isaiah Thomas
    Byron Scott
    Dan Carlisle
    Nate McMillan

Scott had a little help from Jason Kidd, but McMillan made his team competitive, and Thomas and Carlisle single handedly molded their teams into champhionship contenders. There isn't always a need to get experienced coaches.

Someone mentioned Pat Riley. Yeah that would work.

    Mr. Clutch.

I agree...these guys have made awesome teams. Those guys don't have much coach experience and now are very successful.

I actually think John Thompson would be pretty good. Van Gundy would be okay. I'd be comfortable seeing what Boylen or Mr. Mean could do for a short while.

Personally, I've been saying Rudy needs to go since the start of the year. This team consistently underperforms at the exact moments that they shouldn't (i.e. following a long layoff where they had time to practice) and often seems to be outcoached, especially rotation wise (small ball). That said, I wouldn't be suprised to see the team get to the finals 2-4 years down the road (Rudy isn't a horrible coach, just his time has past, imo), but I think that could happen with other coaches and sooner.

    Lucky,

I agree. With Calvin, the players will respect him and they will play hard. Calvin has a higher Bball IQ than Rudy. The deer in headlights look that Rudy has perfected is old.

we need to trade george karl for rudy (yes, i know you trading coaches is not a possibility!). karl will be able to teach our kids how to play basketball (he was a student of dean smith) and run an offense, especially when the rockets players have the potential and desire to be team players. rudy, on the other hand, can coach the bucks with his simplistic offensive systems, and not give a damn about the ball hogs on the bucks.

I basically like Karl, but he lost control of the Bicks last year, and then the dream team . What possibly make you think he could do a better job than Rudy?

I would vote for Calvin Murphy. He seems to be able to point out what is wrong with the Rockets during the game ver quickly. May be if we get Bill Walton then we will see a lot of touch for Yao.

George karl was just laid off by Seattle a few years ago. He screwed the World Championships even with great players like Andre Miller and Jermaine O'Neal and Ben Wallace. How is he going to do better? It just depends on how they get along. Maybe he will help greatly. But most likely no. Please keep Rudy!

I would try and get John Thompson from TNT. I think the players would respect him and he would also get our big men in shape.

John Thompson was one of Yao's earliest and most vocal critics according to a couple of my friends in the DC area.

First of all, Rudy is my king. And I will follow the king until he has been vanquished. But, if that time comes...

    What about Rick Barry??

The guy is a HOFer and has coached before in some other league. I listen to his show in the Bay Area and think the Warriors may a huge mistake not picking him up. The guy knows his bball, tells it like it is, and isn't going to coddle any of the players.

the only positive thing about john thompson and danny ainge coaching the rockets is that they wouldnt be commentating anymore.

but if danny ainge coached the rockets i seriously would not be a fan anymore. i hate him that much. luckily it will never happen.

i say keep Rudy till he wants to go. the rockets are still the eighth seed at the moment. thats fine with me, as long as they make the playoffs.

id imagine les just making one of the assistants head coach if rudy were to retire or quit or something. but everything will turn out ok this season..and rudy will be just fine...
