What's up with his neck? Update: Gasol (neck) will miss the rest of the season due to the partially torn neck muscle injury that kept him out of five of Memphis' last seven games, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. http://www.nba.com/fantasy/fantasy_playernews.jsp?date=04/01/10&type=news#marc_gasol
Grizzlies would not trade Marc, but maybe Thabeet. I see Marc as a better player than Brook (I know he has better numbers, I don't care), do you imagine Brook Lopez backing up somebody? Same with Gasol, he could be even an allstar someday, and can't play as PF.
this is exactly what i was refering to in other threads.....morey has collected a a nice pool of talent (assets) without giving up a lot...now he can "force" a team to give up someone they weren't considering trading. How? Offer them fair value, or just slightly above it. Not necessarily overpaying where you get swindled, but no need to rape them in this case, so there's more in it for them. He's already 25, hitting his prime, and memphis isn't even close to contending...Thabeet has some potential, so they're not lost at center and have been itching to get a true young PF (better than Arthur) I think NY will end up getting something, so those picks are just going to lose value after this summer...let them go while they're hot....
It's not worth it on a player for player basis, and that doesn't even touch the business side of the argument (which favors Yao by about 50x).
After giving away one Gasol, do you think the Grizzlies would give away another? ...Maybe we should sign Kwame Brown and bring over Marc Gasol's cousin and then trade them to the Grizzlies.
Now we talking... I would kill for Marc to be our "BIG" acquisition this offseason as backup/insurance for Yao and while it would take some nice vodoo from Morey, we might have the assets to do.
I don't think the Grizzlies are ready to blow things up just yet, and Gasol is pivotal to any hopes they may have of the playoffs.
I would trade any one player on this roster not named Aaron Brooks or Kevin Martin plus picks for Gasol. The guy will be an all star for years to come
doubt Memphis would trade Marc, hes a great yung talent but he jus doesnt have that 'it' factor or the 'winning knack' from wat ive seen so far.. he probably can but I gota see it.. he'd be an upgrade over wat we had last yr thats for sure and this yr seems bleak in the beginnin with Yao working his way bak
I'm glad to see a lot of other people are on board with this. I think we definitely have the assets to get it done, just depends on what direction Memphis wants to go in. They traded Pau for pure capspace to save money. I seriously doubt Chris Wallace knew what kind of player Marc Gasol would develop into but now that he's due for a big pay raise soon, he might be interested in keeping his options open. This offer gives Memphis a very promising rookie on a rookie contract with many years left for cheap, and the potential of 2 future lottery picks via Knicks. It's definitely not out of the realm of possibility.
I think the other MG would be easier to get. Marcin Gortat. The Magic just draft another C (Daniel Orton) and could be looking to dump some salary. If we offered them JJ and a pick maybe they'd be willing to let him go.
