he played 82 games last year.

martin hasn't played 82 games his entire career, 80 games once.

but the avg. missed game "stat" says Amar'e averaged the same amount of missed games as Yao  when people were bashing Amar'e.

it's about what have you done for me lately. amare played all 82 games last year without issues.

martin has missed games every year basically. same with yao.

if yao plays all 82 games this year, trust me, he'll get a max contract real quick, despite his history.

it's foolish to think GMs don't care about a player's history with injuries. why do you think the suns didn't offer amare the max? or the heat? NY had to settle and they based it on last year.

Good point. It actually did cost him money -- Phoenix refused to offer him the full max because of it. ;)

Did you not read my post? He lost money because Phoenix refused to offer him the max because of his injury history. The "clauses" you're talking about was Phoenix saying he had to meet a minutes requirement -- again, BECAUSE of his injury history.

Yes, he got the max from New York that every team could offer him except Phoenix. Phoenix could offer him more, but they didn't, because of his injury history.

In other words.. it cost him money. Easy to follow.

He has a history of injuries. He's just too skinny for someone that size. He's way underweight. I love him, he's my favorite Rocket, but 180 pounds is disgustingly skinny at his height.

He loses $30 mil by signing with NY for the max instead of Phoenix for the max.

That's the point. His injuries affected his value. Are you following the thread?

Well, the Suns didn't want to guarantee the final two years of his max contract which is why he moved to the perennial doormats. I'd say that it cost him money in terms of guaranteed money and it cost him the value of staying on with a great organization.

After 06-07, the first year he was given big minutes, he's had annual setbacks. Since playing in 80 games in 06-07, he's played in 61, 51, and 48 games.

It might be true the injuries aren't related, yet the fact remains that he is prone to injury. Yes, injuries can happen to other players but it seems to happen more often to Martin. Three separate seasons in which he's played less than 70 games should raise a red flag.

Note that just because I believe that he is an injury waiting to happen doesn't mean that I dislike him or his game. I love watching him play and I only wish him the best. However, based on his previous three campaigns, we shouldn't reasonably expect him to be serviceable the entire year.

I really don't get how this is a stupid thread? It's a legitimate question. Morey may have traded McGrady.. for another McGrady.

Kevin Martin's best year consisted of him missing two games and that was three years ago. He's getting paid 11-12 million for the next three years... and even Elton Brand played more games than him last year.
