This would be my hope completely that he comes to a team with established stars, and a proven heirarchy, and would be more than willing at this time in his career to fit in...........if not then just release him...... A very low risk move, but one that could pan out....... There is no telling how much of what went on was on Steph and how much was on Isaiah........but to me, it would be an extremely low risk move, and one that might work out. Agian, if not...cut him......no biggie. DD
He can run a offense, there is just something about his personality he needs a reality check and may have gotten with New York you never know though.
Oh and for those of you saying that none of the low risk things have worked out, you are completely correct so far, but that doesn't mean the team should stop trying. DD
of course. marbury when he did play last yr was decent. francis is basically done. get marbury in here and see what he can do. our PG position can't get any worse.

If you watch that 2nd interview that Carl Herrara posted, he seems like a guy itching for a chance to prove himself. DD
He is still a capable of 14 points and 7 assist, which sounds like an ideal back up for cheap. Also we need someone to compete and push Alston to his max like last year. Marbs has not had any real serious injury track record in his career. He is still better then Jackson do to his age.
The real question is that whether Marbury will choose Houston if he is bought out. So far, it seems not many FA want to be here.
I dunno, suppose he was signed and was slowly brought into the fold. He's getting minutes here and there and acting like a model citizen. By the all-star break he's our first guard off the bench. By that point we'd likely be committed and he'd know that. I would never be comfortable with us relying on him, even as a guy in the rotation. You can say no risk but that only works if you never need him for anything. You don't bring in a Marbury to be cheer on the end of the bench and mentor young players, he has to play.
I think you would have to make a decision on him sometime early in the season.....and there have been plenty of cases where a bad seed was cut at one point in the season and the team still reached it's goals. Heck, Mad Max was cut in the playoffs...and the Rockets still won the 2nd championship.... Chemistry is very important, but with good players, chemistry is easier to develop... DD
We'd be crazy NOT to want Starbury. He's such a winner! He drastically improves every team he joins! Or maybe not... If the Rockets took another punt this season I'd rather it be this guy. Would cost less than the contracts they out to Bonzi and Francis as well. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sonics/2008028745_sonics02.html
Uh, what year is it? 2008 or 2002? I couldn't care less about career stats, which are meaningless in this comparison. The last two seasons for Marbury have exposed him as being a radioactive fruitcake with greatly diminished skills. Rafer, who never had many skills to begin with, has gotten his act together to an extent. After the Steve Francis and Mike James burnouts last season, signing Marbury would be just plain stupid. Thankfully, I think Morey agrees.
Thank you for this. I wasn't willing to go to the trouble. Marbury's effect on the T-Wolves, Nets and Suns speak for itself.
If he can get any where near his 05/06 form which is very possible and not long ago i would be satisfied. He only played in 22 games last season before he was banned which could be a wake up call. This is a low risk-high reward thingy and is involved with alot of community work which Les enjoys. He could be ideal in this system and with Adelman and the staff could screw his head back on straight. Someone to push Alston for the starting job, they would be competing against each other. He needs to work on his shooting though because it's not much better then Rafer. He can run offense probably just as good as Rafer. The problem with New York though, bad front office and on court chemistry. The GM was basically a coach too which dont mesh and turns into bad chemistry.
Ok, so you disagree, fair enough. As for winning percentages etc, a lot of times it was Steph being traded and the team he went to expected him to lead. It has been proven he is no leader, but one would hope that getting a chance to play with Yao and Tmac would make him reign it in a bit. DD
If we can get him cheap, then why not. See how he mesh with the players during preseason, doesn't work cut him. I don't like Marbury but he is a good player. If he was on this team with all the good character guys we have it will rub off. I mean from top to bottom, from stars 1 & 2 to 15th man we have alot of unselfish guys and that will rub off. Plus we will be winning and I think that in itself we be a breath of fresh air.
LOL! Very funny post that made me laugh, but you still don't get it. When has Marbury ever been made to "reign it in a bit"? Since when have Yao and Tracy been leaders enough to influence kooks like Marbury? They sure did a great job with Bonzi, huh? "Getting a chance to play with Yao and Tmac" doesn't mean nearly as much to NBA players as people like you think. What has either player done to be put up on that pedestal? The problem is that while Marbury is no leader, he isn't a follower either. If basketball were an individual sport, he might have become a superstar.
Look, I am not banking on it, just saying it might be worth a low risk gamble. And to me, Yao is emerging as the clear leader of this team...I expect it has gone in the last 3 years from. Three years ago 1. Tmac 2. Yao Two years ago 1. Tmac 1a. Yao This last year 1. Yao 1a. Tmac This year I expect the transformation to be complete. 1. Yao 2. Tmac And good players look much better when they play with other GOOD players....I would think that Steph passing the ball to Yao and Tmac would be a lot better for him that passing it to Z. Randolph and any other NY Knick. DD
