Then go follow the Mavericks and polish Cuban's purple helmet while you're at it. And I dont give a frogs fat ass about 99ers. I followed them since 1985- doesn't make me any better. Selective fans like you are a shame.

If you have been a fan since 1985, then you know the threat that les was moving the team was real.

    Hows that memory of yours?

I agree with your overall point, but Jeanie Buss is pretty active on twitter

I made this point when this thread was made...

You can't have Cuban as an owner without entanglement in GM duties and Cuban is a terrible GM. I'll take Les and Morey over Cuban and Nelson. I do respect Cuban's willingness to spend but that has resulted in some terrible decisions.

It's so funny seeing this thread title after the offseason Dallas has had. Makes me smile.

I think Cuban did a great job renovating the business side of the Mavericks. I think the Mavs are probably the best run business in the NBA -- marketing, sales, customer experience, etc. Ironic that Les is treating his team as an investment and Cuban as a passion, because Cuban is doing a better job at curating his investment than Les (who isn't too shabby, I guess). Meanwhile, Cuban passion for winning somehow has gotten in their way.

Yes, if Morey is still the GM.

There wasn't really any choice about this. Would Les Alexander have offered long term, expensive deals to aging and/or middling players? Would any good owner, for that matter? Tyson Chandler had a long history of injury problems, and certainly wasn't young anymore. Jet was definitely on a downtrend. Barea was a great role player, but wasn't worth the money/years Minnesota offered him. So, what you are really saying is that a good owner should always sign players up to longer contracts at higher dollars than makes sense. Which makes you...an idiot.

And that is being a bad owner...how? FWIW, Cuban didn't make the refs do anything. How could he? But wouldn't you want an owner who pointed these things out to the league to help his team? If not...why not? Oh, that's right, I forgot, see above.

I'm not going to second guess Cubes' moves because

    A) History speaks for itself...i.e. DON'T BREAK UP A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM FOR NOTHING

    B) I really don't give a rat's ass how the Mavs wasted the rest of Dirk's peak years.

    Interesting defense you have...

    This is a Rockets board.

If you can't see the idiocy of choosing the owner we have vs. an owner who isn't even much more successful, then you need to take your Puban licking elsewhere.

Cuban is dumb when it comes to NBA salary cap rules.

He thinks just having cap space will make stars sign with his mediocre team.

Meanwhile Morey uses his capspace brilliantly by signing good players while maintaining flexibility to sign stars as they come available.

Cuban is also whiny and petty.

He didn't break up a championship team for nothing. He let players whose contracts were up, and who wouldn't sign very high dollar but short term contracts go. So, if you are also in the 'sign old, middling, or injury players to high dollar long term contracts' crowd, then you too are an idiot.

Reality is an interesting, and sound, defense. Especially as opposed to what you brought....

...which, like all such boards, has its share of idiots.

I don't need to go anywhere...and I certainly have my fair share of criticism to direct Cuban's way. Interesting that you had to resort to 'isn't even much more successful'. Are you saying you wouldn't have wanted to Rockets to have been, say, even a little more successful this past year, and, oh, ended up in the Finals. Well, again...every board has 'em, thanks for identifying yourself.

Cuban's strategy is dumb. Just accept it.

Let's see if he comes up with anything remotely intelligent other than just not signing anyone to save capspace.

It's pretty simple. You sound emotionally insecure, so I'll explain it to you.

I'll choose the owner we already have than lusting over some rival's owner and making several threads over how terrible Les is.

Les aint perfect, but he's smart enough to bring in Moery and give him decent berth to run.

I think a lot of that had to do with trading for Dirk on draft night 2 years before Cuban showed up..... Gotta give Don Nelson credit for snatching away Dirk from the Bucks.

I guess? I don't exactly follow how the Mavs are a model sports franchise. Have you been to a Mavs game or their arena?

I'd imagine the Rockets are a much more global brand than Dirk.
