This logic loses me. The Rockets wouldn't have won anything without Hakeem, and he was already on the roster in MVP form when Les bought them. Since that time, the Rockets have been pretty quiet in the playoffs. In fact, they're among the very worst in the league over that time span with regard to playoff success.

I've already told you multiple times, Les over Cuban. I brought up Spurs because you put words in my mouth and said "I couldn't imagine any other owner". Why do you feel the need to be dishonest?

And all you can do is point to a bunch of of folks who agree with you.

You can't defend you point or your thread with actual knowledge. All you have is a bunch of idiots without good basketball knowledge.

You put words in my mouth and you deliberately lie, you're just a troll who grown soft with time.

Hakeem Olajuwon was in his prime when Les Alexander bought the team.

Too bad you don't know that person is

Cuban probably would have traded away Hakeem, much like he did Nash

Nash didn't win an NBA title on the very first year of ownership

the probability of any owner trading Hakeem in his prime especially if he wins the mvp the first year you own it is 0

As mentioned earlier in the thread if you avoid dbag and sirhuaui , Cuban said he learned from that mistake

if you remember, there a long period of time the rockets were the team that always struck out on free agents, thankfully for Kobe Bryant helping make Dwight leave the Lakers

the Rockets have not really had much playoff success, the last time we were close to the finals was with Barkley

you know that guy who loves les

I can't really point out the exact roles Les plays in the organization

I mean Mark Cuban seems a lot more hands on than most owners in the league when it comes to player movements, but I would guess Les leaves most of it to his GM's

I mean we can only guess whether Les hindered the organization with his decisions, but who really knows for sure, seems like random guesses to me.

What could Cuban possibly have done in the past 15 years that would've changed this franchise, I can't think of any

Awwww Cuban apologize and said he learned from one of the most terrible mistakes an owner/meddler could make.... All better huh? Lost in two first rounds after breaking up that championship roster. The Rockets did that without breaking up a championship roster and you think Cuban is better?

Not when we had Yao or Tmac.

Teams usually don't reload immediately after losing a once in a generation player... Teams usually don't have two superstars chronically injured.... 99ers don't like history or context apparently.... Or maybe those pretending to represent Clutch.

Oh yes... The gambling addict who is mad at Les.... That's just turrible....

The only time we won anything in the Yao/Tmac era was when Yao and Ron Artest and Aaron Brooks led us to a playoff series win

Yao got hurt during the Lakers series.

That was it. We had great coach named Rick Adelman who still coach the Rockets to competitiveness after Yao/Tmac, then what happens?

Rick gets fired, Lowry is not happy with McHale.

The fact is the Rockets haven't come close to winning at title in a long time .

Ownership changes, look at the Clippers. It's not too hard for people to imagine the Rockets being owned by someone else.

Some of us actually remember Charlie Thomas

After the Kidd trade , everybody thought the Mavs were done , but he continued to reload them. I think Cuban is a douche and the Mavs are my most hated team, but I am not going to lie because of that. You are comparing owners that won a championship two different ways. One inherited the best player of the era outside of Jordan and had 2 rings fall into his lap, actually he gets credit for Drexler, and the other took a laughing stock of a franchise to new heights. They are top 5 in the league in terms of playoff success since he took over and have won one ring since, making it to the finals twice. You can't knock on him for trading away Nash, they might not have won a ring with him. At the end of the day, Steve (who won 2 MVPs with his new team) never got the job done and Dirk and co. did.

After giving him his only playoff series win, what does Le$ do? He spits in Rick's face and doesn't offer him a contract extension. Actually, he blames him for Yao's injury and asks him to groom the guy they want to replace him with.

Cuban's ownership has been mired by multiple inexplicable decisions he stuck his fingers into.

He's the only owner to trade away a future mvp thinking it will make the team better

    but he learned

He's the only owner to completely break up a championship team

    but he learned

He didn't learn, the issue is he's a lawyer with himself as a client. If he had really learned he wouldn't be pushing himself so deep into personnel decisions that his own staff go publicly on record to wash their hands at the incompetence (oh you think Dallas overpaid on Parsons do you Donnie? oh you don't think Rondo fits do you Rick?).

Cuban inherited a team with 2 future mvps on it, there has been only one other team in the salary cap era to have 2 future mvps on the roster, the Shaq/Kobe lakers, that's how rare that level of talent is, and he bought it that way!

Mad Max is right. If people want to talk about inheriting a player Les not only inherited Hakeem at his prime but all the role players that came with him. He was not involved in the drafting of Horry, Cassel, getting Kenny Smith, Thorpe, Mad Max, Elie... etc.... he had a gm at that time who did his job when Mr. Thomas was owner. Rudy T and CD were also already part of the franchise. Cuban built a franchise out of the dirt and as far as I can remember was the joke of the Texas triangle. He took a team that was prodominantly a football city and made the Mavs the team to watch. In fact it has become a franchise that players want to play in. Cuban built a team around Dirk. He overpaid but always did everything possible to keep the Mavs in contention and surround Dirk with best possible players to get a championship.
Tell me Les fans what has Mr Alexander done for Houston? He pretty much crapped on Charles Barkley. He got Yao and Tmac, but did Nothing to get better talent around them until it was too late. Pissed off Dragic, pissed off Lin, pissed off Parsons, Asik, Artest....Heck he pretty much burnt bridges with Horry, Cassel, Kenny Smith, Elie and our championship boys as well. We've burnt so many bridges it scares me to think if we can ever get more talent to surround Harden and Dwight until it is too late or via trading of assets or overpaying them. The only reason we got Josh Smith was because he was CHEAP and thank the heavens Dwight convinced him! He threatened to move the team to freakin Louisville! He forced the hand of the city to fund a new stadium so he could jack up ticket prices. To this day it is Houston Texas tax payer's money used to fund things like 8M dollars worth of flat screens. Cuban has proven that he is willing to spend. Les has shown it doesn't matter if the team wins or loses as long as the franchise is profiting. Although profits have fluctuated through out the years, he is still making bank off the good people of Houston and raping the wallets of die Hard Rockets fans.
Alot fans on this site were Rockets fans before Les and will continue to do so without him. We bleed Rockets red because it is the only team that has brought us pride with two championships. I am not a Mavs fan, in fact I hate the Mavs, but I do envy that their franchise has an owner passionate about bringing their city and organization a championship at all costs. It isn't the city of Houston that keeps alot of big name free agents away from signing in Houston. It's not that the city is not as appealing as NYC or L.A. or Miami. In fact there is alot of potential in Houston especially with its economic situation. It's playing for an owner like Les that keeps them away. Les is no different than the owner of the OKC Thunder who ripped the heart out of the city of Seattle and didn't want to excede the luxury tax in order to keep Harden. Why play for a billionaire who is only concerened about revenue, when there are Billionaires like the ones that own the Mavs, Lakers, Heat.. and so forth that will gladly go over the cap to bring their city a championship?

Really? Thats what you're going to play? Haha. Dirk wasn't close to an MVP when he bought the mavs, and neither was Nash. Were we watching the same players? As treeman already pointed out in a very thorough and truthful post, they were a joke and he still spent to surround them with talent and invested in their development. You're somehow trying to knock on him for trading away (one of my favorite players too) a guy that never got to the finals and has been criticized about his D from day 1. I don't want to list the # of playoff series the mavs won compared to us, it would hurt me to do so, but just look at the fact they made it to the finals and he has done w.e was possible to make them better. Firing Johnson, trading Harris, all moves that looked bad initially. I don't understand how people can even argue for Les at this point. I can't do treeman's post any service, people just need to read that as he, tinman, Freak, and MadMax know far more about the team before Les bought it.
