When Kobe fans bring up the different era argument, just point out that a 40 year old Jordan averaged 20 ppg in "Kobe's era".

That usually shuts them up (about eras anyway).

And once again. If Kobe wins back to back titles as the superstar of his current team, that will make two different teams and 5 championships. Take away Scottie from the Bulls and rebuild during their championships, does Jordan win two more rings? I say hell no.What Kobe could do this year could be an incredible accomplishment. To me that surpasses Jordan's six rings with Pippen as his wing man

As good as Shaq was, he's never been a threat down the stretch of games. Kobe was the one who was bailing the Lakers out when Shaq became a non factor because od free throws.

If Jordan were to ever play alongside a dominant big man for his entire career (maybe someone of Alonzo Mourning's caliber), who knows how many rings he'd have won. Maybe 10? More?

As great as Pippen is, nothing makes the game easier than a dominant big man.

If Yao comes back this yr and wins a championship, after being thru what he has been thru with the injury and all.

I think he surpass both Jordan and Kobe.

If JORDAN had a dominate center like HAKEEM

    like KOBE did with SHAQ

They would have swept thur the playoffs and won 10+ rings!

how da hell did KOBE/SHAQ lose to the Detriot Pistons!

jordan never lost in the nba finals.

    kobe lost in 04 with shaq getting 26ppg 10rpg 1apg 63%FG while kobe got 22.6ppg 2.8rpg 4.4apg 38%FG

kobe lost as a number 1 option in 08, something jordan never did.

kobe's playoff numbers are inferior to jordan. tonight was kobe's 11th career 40+ point playoff game, jordan has 38 (most in nba history)

people use the pippen argument but jordan won in 1997 with pippen shooting 41% overall, 28% from 3, and 68% fro the free throw line.

pippen argument doesn't stick because jordan has better individual stats than kobe. something that has NOTHING to do with pippen.

even with pippen, jordan had to do much more than kobe during his title runs by factual evidence of statistical win shares.

Kobe’s career high in Offensive Win Shares has been surpassed by Jordan 9 times

Kobe’s career high in Defensive win shares has been surpassed by Jordan 9 times

Kobe’s career high in Win Shares has been surpassed by Jordan 10 times

as you see. kobe at his ABSOLUTE BEST for his career has been surpassed by jordan MULTIPLE TIMES.

keep on ignoring the facts kobe stans.

A player's greatness isn't determined by how many rings he has or who he won them with, because no matter how great he is, it takes a team to win a championship. A player doesn't control his teammates. If he's lucky enough to be surrounded by championship-caliber teams, it isn't because of his greatness.

And to match Jordan's accomplishments, Kobe has to do ALL together,

    - get the scoring title,
    - get the steals title
    - win league MVP,
    - win the title
    - win finals MVP

EACH of those next 3-4 years MINIMUM. All in the SAME YEAR to catch up

    THEN Kobe has to

    - win Defensive Player of the Year
    - win an All Star MVP
    - win a gold medal

to catch up or move ahead. That considering Jordan gave up 4 years of his career.

    Can Kobe do it?

So in order for Kobe to be the GOAT he has to beat Jordan in EVERY statistical category? Lol. You guys are tough

Hmmm. Pippen ran the point, defended the best players, controlled the tempo, scored when called upon, assisted and fed Jordan. Shaq was great offensively, but he always depended on someone getting him the ball and was a liability at the end of games. What were Pippen's flaws?

Magic, Bird & Jordan won their rings with hall of famers playing with them. Kobe currently has none. Where does he match up in greatness?

Pippen was never the number one guy on a championshipteam. He was never the superstar of a team (except for 1 year, but that team didn't get to the conference finals). Shaq has been the main man for years.

So you are saying you would rather have Pippen on your team than Shaq?

Man you are the single stupidest mother ****er alive, arent you? You titled this thread "IF KOBE GETS HIS RING THIS YEAR, HOW IS HE NOT THE GREATEST?"

Well, lets pretend he wins the title this year. Here are the stats:

Olympic Gold Medals_____ Jordan 2_______ 1 Kobe
NBA Championships_____ Jordan 6_______ 5 Kobe
Finals MVP____ Jordan 6_______ 2 Kobe
NBA MVP_____ Jordan 5_______ 1 Kobe
Scoring Titles______ Jordan 10______ 2 Kobe
Steals Leader______ Jordan 3_______ 0 Kobe
All Star Selections_______ Jordan 14______ 12 Kobe
All Star MVP_______ Jordan 3_______ 3 Kobe
All NBA Selections_______ Jordan 11______ 12 Kobe
Defensive First Team_____ Jordan 9_______ 8 Kobe
Slam Dunk Champion____ Jordan 2_______ 1 Kobe
Rookie of the Year_______ Jordan 1_______ 0 Kobe
    DPOY ____ Jordan 1_______ 0 Kobe
Playoff PPG____ Jordan 33.5________ 25.1 Kobe
Reg Season PPG Jordan 30.1_____ 25.3 Kobe

It's still not even close in majority of the categories. No Kobe doesn't have to beat Jordan in every single statistical category, but one would hope at least a few?

If Kobe wins 3-4 more titles then yes one can start discussing his place next to Jordan, Magic, Chamberlain. But you title the thread this year.

    <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-twUCEfzrDk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-twUCEfzrDk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

What the hell is up these what if scenarios with you?

    If Jordan didn't have Pippen
Kobe could have won without Shaq
If Kobe wins 3-4 more titles

    I could say:

What if Jordan didn't retire twice?
What if the Rockets made that trade for Jordan?
What if Hitler never attacked Russia?
What if that chick in the hotel room Kobe raped was actually a tranny?
What if your parents actually send you to school instead of letting you post online and watching Faker reruns since the early 00's?

No body gives a rats ass about "what if" scenarios.

And lol at Kobe finishing games at the end. Well yeah he did...but they wouldn't be any games to close in the playoffs if not for Shaq. Your best player in the playoffs is the one that wins the Finals MVP. And I know you are not good at comprehending ****ing numbers, but Shaq got all 3 of them! Kobe got 0! 3-0! Can your purple and gold brain comprehend those tiny numbers? So according to history, stats and whatever other criteria you want to use Shaq was the best player on those Laker teams.

IF KOBE GETS HIS RING THIS YEAR? HOW IS HE NOT THE GREATEST?

Not only is he not the greatest player the game, MJ is, Kobe is not even the greatest LA Laker ever.
    • Magic Johnson, w 5 rings, is the greatest LA Laker ever.
