I didn't say the East became competitive when Shaq went to Miami.

This is a typical argument used by Kobe nutriders: a former all-star is the same as a current all-star. They're like, "Lebron and Kobe both had Shaq, and Kobe won, so Kobe>>>Lebron!". What a bunch of morons.

If you insisted the Lakers version? How about Shaq in 98,
with NVE, young Kobe, Eddie Jones (all all stars) got swept by Jazz?

The Point is: Shaq could only win with Kobe and Wade, both NBA first team caliber players. Kobe can win with Gasol, NBA third team caliber player.

Kobe can win with less support, period.

    Lets see here

    1) You said Shaq and Heat "immediately" won a championship when Shaq left for MIA..which was wrong because they won it in the 2nd year of Shaq's tenure

    2) Then you said it was crappy East. So I guess it remains crappy for the next 2 years when Shaq was there. Boy thats something to flaunt about...beating up on the "crappy East" to get to the finals

Ok, it took Shaq 2 years to win a title in Miami instead of one. Does that somehow disprove the notion that he was more important to Kobe than Kobe was to him?

OUCH. Worst Finals performance of all-time. Especially since the Lakers were supposed to sweep. Kobe's ego is so bad that he was willing to sacrifice a title to try to win an individual award. Expect the same thing to happen this year if the Lakers make the Finals, since it's obvious Gasol is now their MVP (just check the numbers) but there's no way in hell Kobe will let him get the award.

Wow, you just mentioned a bunch of scrubs and an over the hill Payton.

And actually, Jason freaking Williams was their 3rd highest scorer.

Wade shot 44% next year vs Pistons and still lost. While Shaq posted impressive numbers and much higher field goal percentage. Whats your point? Shaq and Wade still lost to the Pistons

point is, he posted better numbers than Kobe, still had Shaq in his prime, still lost. People shouldn't be harping about the 2004 finals vs Kobe

    1) Well 2 years is pretty fast.
    2) I never claimed Shaq was the greatest, just that he's better than Kobe.

If we had won a ring within 2 years of drafting Yao, I'd say that's an immediate return on our investment.

None of Kobe's teammates were sleeping with his Mom. Besides, NO ONE is claiming LBJ is the greatest.

Payton was still better than Smush, Lakers' starting PG.
So Wade and Mourning were scrubs and Walton and Kwame were franchise players?

    You made my day.

Of course they should, since it's a part of his "legacy" (something you have to consider when entering any debate for GOAT). Kobe cost his team that series. The Lakers were the HUGE favorite and go their ass kicked, because Kobe couldn't stop chucking despite LB's strategy of only single-covering Shaq with a midget (he knew Kobe would want to "get his"). Shaq put up his usual dominant performance but wasn't getting the ball nearly enough to offset Kobe's horrible attempts.

The following year, Detroit was the favorite but the Heat still gave them a good run. And the year after that, Detroit was again the favorite and the Heat managed to beat them. In neither scenario did Wade ballhog nearly as much as Kobe, and he had worse teammates and a Shaq that was on the decline (although still very good, just not the monster Kobe got to play with).

but people, to dismiss kobe from the GOAT argument, keep bringing up that Shaq was responsible for winning the 3 titles that he won alongside Kobe but fail to neglect the series he lost when he had Kobe or a Kobe-esque talent alongside him
