Arrogant douche? And what about his play makes him that? I don't see Kobe dancing around making silly faces while throwing up the ROC

Nobody remembers that too fondly because when Kobe was at this "best" the Lakers with Kobe posted their worst records.

I'm sure there is no correlation there though, you know... the best player of all time scoring 81 points against the Toronto Raptors... surely during that month he averaged 43 ppg the Lakers must have been in contention.

Would you like to compare Kobe's stats to Jordan's? Even throwing in jordan's stats when he was 40? Would you like to talk about Jordan winning Defensive Player of the Year, Scoring Title, All-Star MVP, and League MVP.........ALL IN THE SAME SEASON?

Ok it took me some time to put this in the right format (and I failed at that), I know I shouldn't bother, but I will just keep these statistics and post them everytime these stupid threads pop up, If I am bored I will add Bird, magic, Wilt abdul jabbar, Shaq and Russel to show even more.

Based on either statistics and awards there is no way anybody can possible argue that Bryant was better than Jordan. The only things in which Bryant is better than jordan is 3point Fg and free throws, but even that is erased in the play offs.

/thread (for all the people who are not complete Bryant homers).

if by contention you mean a decent team then of course. kobe had an all star cast around him.

    smush parker
    kwame brown
    brian cook
    chris mihn
    devean george
    luke walton
    and lamar odom.

hell. even jordan would not have been able to work with that. but yet kobe took this team. this sooorry ass team to the playoffs.

Pick any objective measure of "greatness" and Jordan is better than Kobe. He is also better in most, if not all, reasonable subjective measures too.

Doubtful that MJ would have gotten that team very far either, but if MJ was "nothing" without Phil, then Kobe is certainly "nothing" without Phil as the 2004-05 season points to.

    *raises hand*

Jerry West is one of the most criminally underrated players in league history. Amazing scorer, could bring the ball up on offense and one of the greatest defenders of all-time. He's a top 7 player AT WORST in my opinion -- ahead of both Shaq and Olajuwon (and that last comment just got me in hot water on this board...).

Kobe's achievement hasn't been as good as MJ.
But if he wins another ring, he's going to be the best player since MJ, bar none.

    Not surprising.

The argument for Kobe>Jordan is far more compelling than West>Olajuwon, and a Kobe>Jordan argument is ridiculous at best.

There is already a decent argument for Kobe being the best player since MJ. Its between him, Duncan, and Shaq right now.

I don't think him winning a championship shifts the balance to him "bar none". It really will depend on how it happens. Duncan was really, really good for a long time, dominant on both ends, and IMO the best teammate and leader of the three. Shaq was a virtually unstoppable force for about 4 years.

Right now, I think its Duncan, Kobe, and Shaq. I may put Kobe ahead of Duncan if he impresses me enough the rest of the way.

How would another ring make him the undisputed best since MJ? He'll still trail Shaq in Finals MVP awards and he'll tie Duncan in that award. I'm assuming here he would definitely win the Finals MVP even if Gasol played better, just because he's Kobe.

He'll still trail TD in MVP awards, 1st team All-Defense selections, 2nd team All-Defense selections, 1st team All-NBA selections, and 2nd team All-NBA selections. That's not even mentioning the fact that TD has a greater impact on the game defensively and has been the best player on a team that has never won less than 50 games (except the lockout season). Kobe has been the best player on a sub-50 win team three times.

Shaq once had 4 all stars in the team and got swept by Jazz. Duncan had Tony and Gino and still went nowhere last couple of years.

Give Shaq/Duncan Smush, Walton, Kwame as starters they won't make playoff.

If you're talking about current Shaq/Duncan, you're right. If you're talking about prime Shaq/Duncan, you're absolutely wrong.
