They shouldn't amnesty Kobe...why? Cos it'll tie up their funds and keep them at the bottom for another year.
That's ideal unless of course the NBA awards the Lakers 50 FTs every night to make up for the loss of their star.

If you bid lower than the minimum salary, does that free up more cap space by taking an extra spot?

or is the amnesty bid capped at the minimum?

If Kobe gets amnestied, Dwight should leave, and I don't mean LA, I mean a European holiday til the lynch squads die down.

Morey would amnesty hakeem if it would save $80M. But to answer the original ?, no. We shouldn't mae an offer. He wouldn't fit in to our lon tem plans and he would tie up too much cap space not to bring a title to Houston. All he wouldaccomplish is a few jersey sales.

Adding KOFs with LOFs to this board? That sounds like a nightmare.

If Kobe is amnestied, he will almost certainly be a Maverick the next day. They would most likely pay up to the maximum cap space they have available to sign Kobe in Dallas. Cuban has pretty much gone on record to say this is what they would do.

Amnesty bid has a floor at the minimum which is $1,399,507 for Kobe.

Its very risky for the Lakers to do. Although saving $80 million is tempting.

Would another team bid? Kobe could just say he's injured and not play next year so the team bidding would be just throwing away money.

The risk is Kobe's Larry Bird rights go to the other team possibly making it difficult acquiring Kobe back.

I would love Kobe on this team. The guy knows how to win. He'll teach our guys so many small tricks and tips.

As much as you hate Fisher, you can't deny that the dude is a winner, he'll do what ever it takes to win and it sucks he's not on our team.

Kobe's not going to be amnestied. That would effectively poison his relationship with the Lakers forever, and the Lakers would be estranged with one of their all-time greats.

I could see the Lakers trying to work on a deal with Kobe. They amnesty him, with a promise from Kobe that he is going to sit out all of next year (and be public about it). Then they offer him a 3 year deal in 2014 FA.

I'd be shocked if Kobe were amnestied. I'd be shocked if Cubes didn't wind up with him (but, what about - - Cleveland?).

But, let's just say the Lakes would get some insurance bucks back the insurance would have nothing at all to do with the multiplier that is the Lux Tax taxtaxtax.

The Lakers are facing two awfully awesomely interesting summers: this year with Kobe's injury, the DHoHo conundrum, Pau's contract; the unlikeliness that any team they construct will quality for the post-season. Ah, LaLaLand and LottoLand - - anyone else smell some purple Wiggins?

The following summer the Lakes will be reconstructed into a scary force. Just how scary? There is Jimmy B to make it scary for Lakers fans, tho...

Agreed. Why would the Rockets go after Kobe especially if they are going after Howard, makes no sense. Even if we do not get Howard, Houston will not sign Kobe to more than a 1 yr deal. Next years free agent class is the one the Rockets want to target if they do not land Dwight Howard.

Waited until AM? What does that mean? That a Kobe amnesty is a real possibility because it would save the Lakers scads of money has been true since the day he got injured. I don't see anything new here.

I predict they'll do it and Kobe will join the Mavericks. I don't see any potential for him coming to the Rockets.
