They disrespected Kareem all these years. If MJ can leave the Bulls, Lebron can leave Cleveland. Only the fans are delusional enuff to think this is anything but a business decision. Imagine young Buss thinking this is his shot at coming out of daddy's shadow.

I'd take Scola over Kobe right now.

If they are going to amnesty him they are going to need a good reason to do it...someone to go after. Not just doing it to do it.

They have the big name free agent on their team already and unless CP3 changes his mind no one else out there this upcoming offseason is a max player.

I can give you about 85 million good reasons to amnesty him.

If he isn't going to play all of next year, it makes no sense to incur all the luxury tax penalties just to have some nostalgia sitting on the sideline in a suit.

Screw kobe. Yao and the rockets got laughed at every time there was a an injury. The man is worth over half a billion dollars. Quit acting like he died. Kobe fans can suck it.

any team claiming Kobe would be paying a guy not to play for a year.Kobe then can resign with the Lakers in 2014 when they'll have only Dwight under contract

of course insurance will pay kobes salary next year. Not sure if it covers or affects taxes

He might miss entire next season. If he did come back, he'd be pushing 36. He'll retire a Laker one or way or another.

If Bryant is amestied, and through some bizarre sequence of events we were to end up with the guy (I'm getting a bit nauseous just typing that), would he be willing to come off the bench behind Harden? Could he play some at the 3 spot? Could he play a lot at the 2, with James playing at the 1?

    Pretty crazy thoughts, aren't they.

Bingo... Sometimes people tend to forget this is a business and the part about loyalty has long gone from all sports organizations.

To pay a player 80 mil rehab is not a smart business move especially when that is on the down side of his career and may retire in a year or two.

If Kobe is amnestied, it would be because he would be unable to play throughout his current contract (ending next season).

Putting a bid in, would not make sense, because he would be injured.

If Kobe were to ever play here, it would be via free agency in 2014.

I think they should amnesty him. How does it impact the Rockets if we make an offer?

Wait, what? Dude just tore his Achilles tendon and is talking about retiring in 2 years. If a team had enough room for the max why would they waste in on Kobe instead of someone who's young enough to be part of their core for the next 5 years?

ANyway as far as Kobe is concerned we don't need him, not with Harden being the man on the team. Kobe's been an alpha dog all his life, even when Bynum or Gasol were tearing it up he still hogged the ball, he won't adjust to being just a 6th man.

Plus he wouldn't want to come to H-town anyway, dude's played on a biggest of stages his entire career. If Lakers amnestied him he'd probably go to NYC to play with Melo and Kidd and form their own big 3.

What's the deadline to amnesty him? I don't think the Lakers will amnesty him if there's any chance he can play next season, even if it's at 60-80% of his prior level. Will the Lakers and Kobe know enough about the injury by the deadline to make that kind of assessment?

It was just reported. It's the worst type of torn achilles injury. Complete tear. He's basically done. Almost certainty that the Lakers amnesty him now.

No way, Houston makes an offer now.
