I agree. For those with a short memory, you might recall that the Houston Rockets of 1994-1995 Championship Years were called a very "ugly" team to watch especially by non-Houston fans. It was basically Hakeem in the middle, break it down, score in the paint or pass to a shooter. I recall a SI article from 1994 or 1995 that bemoaned the ugly style of play of the Rockets. Heck it even brought the Barkley rule in the paint a few years later.

I think that as long as the team wins, the team will be considered playing beautifully by Houston fans. Heck, I just want to see the team win right now. We have had too many years of ugly ball on a bad to mediocre team. If Van Gundy can bring that winning mentality, I will back him up 100%.

I LOVE the choice of JVG as new coach. I hope it's confirmed.

The INMATES need a strong disciplinarian and that is JVG's calling card. I have learned a lot about him in his courtside role with TNT and I like his NO NONSENSE approach. BTW, he also has a great sense of humor.

He has been my co#1 choice along with LB. I'm not sure he's not really a better fit than the "Pied Piper".

    Roger that!

    And Ron....that was pretty funny.....zipit.com :)

    Let's all support him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    We shall support everyone!

    Love!

Spurs kinda play ugly ball as well.
Running teams have not won recently.
    Half court game wins.
Nets.....just watch....they might win 1 or 2....but in the end, it doesn't even matter!!!!! Well because...they have no halfcourt game...and Spurs defense is one of the best.

Ewing was old and used when Pat Riley jumped ship. Then when JVG took over, Ewing was not the old Ewing anymore.

I do believe JVG knows how to use the big man. The problem is if he can wait until Yao develops. Let's face it, Yao is not ready to take over the team YET!!!

JVG will be under pressure to win games now, thus allowing a guard-dominated offense because Yao is neither Ewing or Dream.

I hope JVG can balance the guards and the big man, and eventually move the team to a big-man dominated team once Yao and EG develop.

I'll support the team whoever the coach is and whoever the players are because, well, this is my team. I'm not one of these who says "If so-and-so comes here I'm gonna become a Mavs fan". Screw that.

Gooooooo Rox!!! Win it all next year!!!

I am just not sold on this guy. I watched a lot of Knick games on DirecTV when he was the coach and let me tell you, if you thought that Rudy's offense was painful to watch, then Van Gundy's Knick offense will bring tears to your eyes. I would have preferred Eddie Jordan or Mike Dunleavy over Van Gundy but I'll reserve judgement for now. My fear is that he'll make the Rockets into a one-dimensional defensive team like Detroit was this year.

He'll have to definitely change his offensive philosophy in order to survive in the Western Conference. When you play in a division with Dallas, Sacremento, Los Angeles & San Antonio, ugly ball will not be good enough to win.

Do you have anything nice to say or just the babbling above? I wish JVG well and hope the Rox will have much success this season and all seasons.

Oh yea, the Civil War has ended just so you know.

Yes, I will support him when he is hired. I will always support my favorite team and the members.

Yaaaa! Go Van Gundy! :( :(

It's going to take some time for me to get used to this.

Exactly! I'm excited for next year regardless of who they selected as coach. I would have been happy with any of the candidates they interviewed. I will always be a fan.

The coach won't change any real fan's support of the team whether they like the coach or not. You don't boo the coach of your team. I'm looking forward to seeing a positive change in this team which either of the primary candidates can accomplish. I'm wary or JVG's offensive philosophy but maybe he'll bring in a good assistant to get that up-tempo style Les claims he wants...

I have no problem with Van Gundy; I expect that he will work very hard and do well. My problem is with the players we have. I think we need some new ones. We need a point guard and a "banger" at power forward. We also need some consistent "shooters" like one of the Barry brothers. As far as I am concerned, Ming is the only untouchable, but Francis has a max contract (which I would not have given him) and is probably here forever. I would like to keep Mobley, but I wouldn't miss anyone else. Coaching is important, but talent wins games and the Rockets don't have enough of it.

    Joe Fan,

You've been added to my signature of clutch members who were very against adding Van Gundy. I have the feeling that you'll eat your words when we improve greatly next year, but perhaps my belief in Van Gundy will prove to be the wrong choice. In any case, I'll keep you in my signature as a reminder.

I think that's a great way of keeping track. I'm so looking forward to seeing JVG prove all the naysayers wrong. The single biggest beneficiary to this move is going to be Yao. Yao is going to respond to the philosophies of JVG like Buddhist monks to the Dalai Lama. Yao roots is all about discipline. He will feed off the disciplinarian philosophies of JVG like a parched plant getting a sip of water. And what a great precedent that will set for the rest of the team!

    JVG and Yao.

    Match made in heaven

Rockets need better shooters. They just don't have enough deadly consistent outside shooters. They have Mobley and Rice and that's about it.

Someone said that no one would care to search the archives in the future to see who said what, so I figured I'd tally a list onto my signature to keep track. Someone will be wrong and if it's the anti-VG guys well I'll have the list right there. If they're right then I was wrong and I'll have egg on my face.

I just think adding the hardest working coach in the NBA to a team like ours can only help.
