All-time records are more of a testament to his longevity than anything else.

Kidd's highest APG was 10.8. Stockton surpassed that 9 times. Nash has surpassed that 6 out of the past 7 seasons.

not gonna start nothing Wekko ....but seriously man, you think Nash is a better pg because of that??...Stockton maybe I can agree with a tiny bit(although I think K.Malone helped his assists totals considerably)....

No, Nash is a better player then Kidd because Nash is the best shooter in NBA history and Kidd is one of the worst. Shooting is the second most important thing a PG can do to passing (which Nash is also better than Kidd at). Prime Nash is the 3rd best PG of all time, behind only prime Magic and prime Isiah. Prime Kidd is maybe top-10.

How about defense? And I do not remember Magic as a good shooter either.

This thread has really gone in a different direction to what the OP intended.

Keep in mind that this thread is about LEGACY, not what type of player you are.

In that sense, I would say he has a similar legacy to Payton IF he wins the title this year. If anything, a slightly better legacy. Payton was closer to his twilight when he won a ring with MIA, than Kidd is right now. Payton was a packup PG, Kidd is still starting. So Kidd would definitely have a similar legacy but better than Payton. He won't reach the level of Stockton's legacy, only because the Jizzholes were true rivals to the Bulls, while The Nets didn't have a chance of winning titles in their finals against elite competition.

Yes, Payton, Stockton and Kidd are different players. The Glove was a killer defender and all-around good scorer, Stockton was a lights out shooter, Kidd was a killer rebounder for his position. All 3 were great playmakers (probably best passer is between Kidd and Stockton.)

Ultimately, these differences in player attributes really don't matter though. Kidd's legacy will be somwhere between Payton and Stockton's based on how well they played in general in their prime, and how they led great teams (Stockton not so much), but teams that couldn't get over the hump.

I would gladly take Kidd, KJ and Payton over Nash. KJ and Payton playing under these current rules....man.

How about defense? Why does everyone think Nash is a horrible defender? Is it because he's white? Because I don't see other PGs lighting him up. Now the Suns as a whole aren't a defensive powerhouse but there's no reason to think that Nash is a worse defender than the average PG. Kidd is an above-average defender but his boost in defense isn't worth what he gives up on offense by not being able to shoot. PG defense is far less important that bigman defense.

Magic wasn't a great shooter (he was above-average in his later years) but he was a great scorer and consistently shot over 50%, wheras Kidd has trouble cracking 40%. Nash is amazing because he consistently shoots over 50% with most of his points being outside the paint.

When the opposing guard constantly gets to where he wants with no resistance...Thats bad defense.... Lighting him up doesnt mean that he has to put up 30 points (although they could), its basically him doing whatever the hell he wants ...and probably doing some things he didnt have to do.....Thats what I call a horrible defender....Nash would most definitely fit this description...

Agree. There are two sides to the court. Nash has NEVER been to the finals. Indictment on his career.

He was at least average and enough height to deter shots. Plus MJ is top 15 all time in steals.

Nash should not be mentioned in the same breath as the GOAT.
