I can only hope Hillary is on the ticket for the democrats. I think she is a worthy candidate but she has done too many things (all the eye rolls, resting/sleeping during speeches) which would look great in Anti-Hillary ads. Again a lot can change in the next 3-3 1/2 years but I would be happy to have Hillary running for the other side.
What about staying with a husband who has cheated on her multiple times? This is a very telling character trait. We need a strong leader, not somebody who gets pushed around and just takes it.
Batman, Hillary won New York because Giuliani dropped out. Lazio was a dud of a candidate. Don't paint this as some come from behind political miracle by the Hildebeast. It wasn't. It was dumb luck and opportunism. Hillary is nothing without her last name, we all know that. Her one big initiative that Bill turned over to her, healthcare reform, flopped rightly on its face. She is perceived by the American public as being an angry, conceited b*tch, and she has huge baggage in terms of legal issues. If Kerry's campaign was able to be torpedoed by the Swifties (God bless them), then Hildebeast's campaign would be STEAMROLLED on these grounds listed above. Plus, she's going to look FUGLY by the time 2008 rolls around. Heck, she couldn't even keep her man 6 years ago when she looked a whole lot better than she does today.
I do not believe, (at least for the next 2-4 elections) that the evangelicals will ever "stay home" as you word it. Battle lines have been drawn and the fence is Roe vs. Wade, even if you dont want to define it that clearly, I believe that the religious will be out is similar numbers to 2004 for the next 2-4 elections. I do not credit Rove as much as some do for the turnout this year. I simply think that the religious are firmly rooted with the GOP now and I think that next election will have an equal evangelical turnout for the GOP even if the candidate is in the McCain and not Bush mold. As for Hilary, socialist may not be the right word, but clearly the appointment of Dean to DNC is a clue in the direction that the Dems want to head. I think their best bet, would be Edwards/Obama, or Edwards/Bayh.
Just IMO, what you say about Edwards and Kerry losing is true, but to say they lost because they were too liberal is also true I think, at least to some extent.
Actually this is the problem with American Politics We looking more to say what is wrong with the OTHER GUY than what is right with our candidate Rocket River
Are there any prominent Christian Democrats out there who are "moderate" on abortion (for example, against partial-birth)? Would someone who is against partial-birth have a chance of winning the nomination? Also - Is Dean really the ultra-liberal that he is percieved as? He is rated very highly by the NRA and has always been a staunch gun-rights guy. I don't really know much about his Vermont record - but he supposedly kept balanced budgets.
Very well said. I agree that it would be nice to be able to vote for the person that I thought was the "best" choice rather than the "lesser of two evils."
Al Gore might decide to go for that one shining moment that fleeted him back in 2000. If he runs, look for Hillary to stay in the Senate.
Gore might run but that won't affect Hillary's plans in the least. He's a lot more worried about her than she is about him. In fact, if it's the MoveOn Gore from last year, she might like to have him in there so she can be the sober centrist by contrast.
langal: A lot of Democrats voted for a ban on partial birth abortion. Hillary voted against it because it didn't allow an exception for women whose health might be in danger. Here's a quote: "I have said many times that I can support a ban on late-term abortions, including partial-birth abortions, so long as the health and life of the mother is protected."
This has been shown to be code for abortion on demand, and abortion doctors admitted as much. The key is, the "health" of the mother can be taken to mean just about anything, and any concerns that the mother had were accepted as risks to her mental health. Most of us pro-lifers would gladly and whole-heartedly support an exception in cases where the mother's life is at above normal risk, but just because she thinks a baby will cut into her shoe budget or her boyfriend/parents might be pissed is not reason enough to have an abortion (kill a baby, from our point of view).
I agree with RocketRiver that racism and sexism are still alive in this country. i don't think there's anyway to honestly deny that. But this black woman could win, I think.
