    TheFreak,

Apparently the president just can't do his job in the six months before an election, ehh? Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. You obviously would be questioning the inhumanity of Clinton's administration if/when these same people were freezing to death later this winter.

Remind me, what exactly did Iraq do to warrant the last bombing that I guess you're referring to? Start turning on their SAM radars onto American pilots in the no fly zone? If he hadn't acted you'd be calling for his head b/c of his inaction. His foreign policy would have been horrible, yadda yadda yadda.

    Give it a break.

Jeff -- your examples of previous presidents possibly employing similar tactics just further legitimizes the question. Obviously, this is not an "idiotic" thread.

Also, if all they're concerned about is "getting our vote", they shouldn't be in politics. Unfortunately this will probably not be a reality anytime soon.

Achebe -- freezing to death? Clinton didn't seem to be worried about escalating energy costs in his previous 8 years. Now he's concerned? He was trying to make him and Gore look like heroes on the eve of the election, without having to do any real work to solve the problem. Amazingly, it doesn't look like people bought it this time. I believe the bombing you're referring to is not the one I'm thinking of. dc sports I believe named the one I'm talking about. I will admit my memory is hazy as to the details.

This is a man who is so popular now for possibly one reason -- he shut down the government for political gain during his first term. I believe his approval rating was in the toilet until that time. Shutting down the government has had the Republicans on their heels ever since. Vintage Clinton. There will always be questions surrounding any decision he makes. I don't buy the "just doing his job" bit for one second. Not with his track record. Just my opinion.

I have a hard time believing that Clinton's cruise missile strikes on the "terrorists" in Sudan was anything but politically-motivated. It was the day of Lewinsky's testimony...no terrorists were killed...in fact, only custodians in the building were killed...and it turned out the building was a pharmaceutical lab that supplied necessary drugs to the impoverished people of Sudan...the decision to strike was entirely Clinton's, against the advice of his military consultants...and the Pentagon and CIA have since said that there was absolutely no terrorist activity or link to that building.

My new theory is Osama Bin Laden is not even a real person but a convenient "bad guy." Of course, I'm just joking...but does anyone else remember how that day was supposed to mark the beginning of a new "war" on terrorism? We were going to take it to them!!! yeah...maybe not.

MadMax, is that true? I remember some sketchy information immediately after the bombing. I wouldn't doubt that the president would want to let off some steam, but I would hope that it would be on a logical target...

I haven't had the chance to go through these, but they look like some good articles with links on the Embassy bombings and the retaliation.

From PBS's Frontline: The Embassy Bombings and US Retaliation http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/binladen/bombings/

From The International New York Times, On The Web: Decision to Strike Factory in Sudan Based Partly on Surmise http://partners.nytimes.com/library/world/africa/092198attack-sudan.html?Partner=PBS&RefId=Eutttn-uFBqv

Not the salon, grummett.... I don't want to read Will's biased bs (j/k Will).

dc sports: That PBS article points out (I'll leave it to others to drill down through each of those links [IMG]) at the end that Sandy Berger, the NSA (former?) said categorically that

    --break--
Bush just mentioned TAAS (sp?) and Gore licked his lips. I think I saw some canines.
    ---------

anyway Berger said that they knew for a fact that there were weapons in that pharmacy. Isn't it the NSA's resonsibility to inform the president? Does anyone here think that the National Security Advisor would lie for b.j. reasons? What a dark world for those that do. No wonder you guys are so pi@@ed.
