They could have included Haddidi & Thabeet and we'd still have two fringe players.

You have completely lost your mind. No, Chuck could not defend 3s. They would leave him flat-footed on the perimeter. Just wow!

With that lineup, the Rockets would have the slowest, least athletic starting 5 in the NBA by a wide margin.

Thabeet wasnt brought here to play, he was brought here as an expiring contract for this year.

They basically said: instead of just letting Battier expire, lets turn him into a pick, a TPE and an expiring contract for next year since we struck out on trades this year.

unless he starts to care about playing at the level that he's capable of, then we have a great defensive center

    Do you mean Hamed Haddadi

As a second generation Iranian-American I can assure you he sucks. The only Persian cat that I have seen that has a chance to be good in the NBA is Arsalan Kazemi.

Hamed Haddadi is lazy and slow. Not a good combination for a big.

Thabeet has a very high ceiling... And what is positive is his ceiling is directly related to defense. Defensive potential is less of a challenge than offensive ability. Defense keeps players on the floor longer than offense. Because most NBA players are exellent offensive threats. I think that he has the body frame to be very very good.

Memphis gave up on him because they already had Gasol and Randoph.

If Memphis would have had a scrub center and they got rid of Thabeet, I would be inclined to write off Thabeet too.... I think the Grizzley lacked to patience to give Thabeet a ligitimate learning curve to get on the floor. And rightfully so, because they could not take the foot off the accelerator, if not they'd of been in danger of missing the playoffs.

Probably because they are both about 7-2, they are both cemented to the floor, but Haddadi is by far and away a much better and more skilled offensive player. All Thabeet can do at this point is stand in place and take up space on defense.

    Haddadi can actually play basketball.

First of all, there was NO FREAKIN' WAY the Rockets were going to get Kendrick Perkins for a package centered around Shane Battier. The Celtics got Jeff Green (a younger, better player than Battier) AND a potential late lottery pick (2012 LAC top-10 protected first rounder) from OKC for Perkins. Unless Daryl was willing to give away an UNPROTECTED first rounder (which would be highly unlikely), there wasn't any way to beat OKC's offer.

Also, a Battier for Haddadi + pick deal would not work under the cap. It had to be Thabeet + Carroll to make the salary cap math work.

Also, while I'm not a big Thabeet fan, I consider him a better use of $5M than buying a mid- to late first rounder in this draft (especially since I'm not optimistic that the Rockets would have had copious amounts of cap space to use this summer, anyway). He's at least got a CHANCE to become a quality shot blocker. Sure, the likeliest scenario is that he doesn't pan out. But you've got to take chances to win; and this was a big chance that will only cost the Rockets $5M next season and potentially nothing after that.

Wanted Haddidi all along. The guy is very long, he's probably leading the league in blocks per 36. And he can shoot.

He got a few double doubles in the very few meaningful minutes games he played this season.

It was practically a give away on both Brooks and Battier. So.... Whatever. We could have gotten more. I dont know. Thats Morey for you. Everyone will say no he couldnt but I bet a better GM could have.

    No it was not.

Dragic and a 1st for Brooks? Are you kidding me?

Thabeet and a 1st for old Battier? Nothing? Really?

You do realize that both Brooks and Battier were inevitably going to leave in free agency this summer, right?

The Rockets got multiple future first round picks, plus a quality backup PG in Dragic and a project "center with upside" in Thabeet, all for two guys who were only going to play another seven weeks for a team that wasn't likely to make the playoffs, anyway.

Yes, I'm frustrated by the trades from the standpoint that (a) Battier is my favorite player and (b) I thought Brooks was the best player involved in either trade, but I also understand the reality of the situation and that SOMETHING needed to be salvaged for those two players.

Those trades were not "give-aways". They were salvage projects.

I thought Morey did fairly well, all things considered.

And if Thabeet can show ANYTHING next season, I'll change that "fairly well" to "very well".

To me, the frustrating part is that Thabeet has not shown "ANYTHING" yet, not even in the D-League (where he had no more than simpley some good "moments" and nothing that really inspires hope for the NBA level).

I am not unhappy with the Brooks deal because Dragic has shown "something" to us-- actually, he showed us more of himself than Brooks ever did this season. The Battier trade was frustrating because (a) Battier was doing very well, and (b) Thabeet did squat.

We can only hope that Thabeet wakes up soon and understand that if he doesn't, he'll soon be playing in places like Bakersfield and Idaho on a long-term basis.

I am Iranian myself, and although I am proud an Iranian player made it in the league, he won't help our team.
