I haven't read the whole thread so this may already have been covered, but the one thing Gary Kubiak brings to the team is his offense. If you want him to change that, why keep him at all? You'd be much better off just getting a coach who actually knows how to run that offense rather than having Kubiak try to blow up everything he knows for something different. It's like asking a mobile QB to learn to be only a pocket passer - if you don't want him to do what he's good at, just get someone who's actually good at whatever it is you want. Otherwise, you're just trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
Well, Shanahan was able to adapt his offense to a mobile QB. If Shanahan can do it, his protege should be able to as well.
woah woah woah....let the records show nervous donny edited this post, and it originally said "I still believe this is true, Jackass". I need say no more in this thread. Sorry for embarrassing you. Just thought it was a little silly that DonnyMost was starting this thread. Opinions change fast though, I get it. Take it easy.
Why? I'd argue that Shanahan is a lot more proven/experienced/all-around-better coach than Kubiak. Just because Shanahan can do something doesn't suggest Kubiak can do it at all.
They run similar offenses. It's not crazy to think he can adapt a running QB. A running QB is natural for this offense with all the rollouts and fakes.
Maybe - but why not just get a coach who actually knows it, rather than giving the current coach 3 years to figure out if he can learn it?
It's the same offense. I argue that a good coach utilizes his players strengths. If Kubes were somehow given a mobile QB like an RGIII or Wilson or Kaepernick and he wasn't able to adapt his offense to take advantage of their skills, a la Shanahan, then he'd be a pretty crappy coach. A coach can't be so rigid that only players that fit a specific mold can play for them. Sure, you want players that fit a system, but when presented with players that can improve your chances of winning, you need to adapt the system to take full advantage of that.
I'd say 13 wins is big. Not big enough for my taste, though. Good thing we didn't go full r****d and pull a cardpire by chasing Peyton Manning though, because we'd have TJ Yates starting right now, and probably would've surrendered the division to the Colts for the forseeable future. Seriously, you are are a total idiot. Always were, always will be. Ignore list for you.
Kubes offense is straight out of the 1980's with very little modernization and diversity. You want offense, fire Kubes and hire Josh McDaniels. Watching our slow ass LB's isolated on skill players was painful to watch. Brady making 3 yard passes that turn into 20 yard gains was painful. The Pats are absolutely genius when it comes to finding and exposing match ups. Kubes on the other hand always does what he thinks we do well regardless of match ups. Kubes would never find and exploit a match up. I'd like to see what McDaniels is running in NE here in Houston with our skill players.
If you can force Kevin Gilbride to put in a TE in the Run and Shoot we can force Kubiak to run more Circle routes and change the offense Rocket River
I'd agree - but everything about Kubiak has always been about finding players that fit into his system (an o-line that's designed for zone blocking, one-cut runners, a 2nd receiver that's a strong run-blocker, etc). He's never been about fitting his system around the players. It's one reason I don't think he's a great coach.
Yeah, the owner getting inolved in drawing up plays sounds like a great idea. Works pretty well for Dallas.
Bingo. Kubiak's offense is old guard. It simply cannot keep up with today's NFL. He's not an idiot, though. I give him a chance to modernize before I send him packing.
i understand that he's currently scrambling and grasping, but does anybody else know what any of that means? i'll ignore all the name-calling and threats to ignore me...those only make you more correct.
A running QB does fit into the system. Schaub is probably a less ideal fit for this type of offense than a mobile QB.
Can you say with a healthy optimism we have not? I cannot guarantee . . .with a healthy schaub etc etc that we win this division next year Rocket River
The Colts had one of the luckiest years on record. The Texans will easily win the division going forward unless we have a total epic fail with a replacement QB.
I can. We still have some young defenders and playmakers- Watt, Cushing, Foster, Joseph. Andre is still good. Our OL is good. I think our core is still a lot better.
