He was clearly putting Harden in an elite status of a guy based on the two superstar model of building a team and while he didn't say the team was contenders he clearly eluded to the fact that Harden + another allstar was what he had in mind to make this deal.

He clearly demonstrates this also by the amount of assets he relinquished to OKC. Kmart/ Lamb plus 2 #1's. This is a huge amount of quality players to give up.

Harden's only 23 years old and slated to become the best SG in the league in the next 2-3 years. Our highly touted picks are Jeremy Lamb and likely a low lotto pick.

How's that even remotely the same to Battier for Gay? BTW Harden is so much better than Gay as well. LMAO you still can't get over the fact that Battier has done so much more for the Rox and Miami than Gay has ever done for your scrubby Grizzlies team.

I think most astute judges would agree with Morey, that Harden is part of the "one plus another" allstar equation.
    They would disagree with you.

Superstars are super because they're clutch. Harden has already demonstrated his ability to step up in the crunch and carry a team. Now that he has no competition for shots, he'll score freely.

    Agreed.

NBA championships: Battier 1, Gay 0.

You could even count out career playoff games WITH THE GRIZZLIES for comparison. Gay has had 6 seasons, and 7 playoff games with them. Battier had 6 seasons and 25 playoff games.

I think it's clear who the better player in that trade was. Sure, he might not score like Gay (!) but he's a better player because he makes the team better.

Why should Rockets fans be scared of this?? You can't just acquire All-Stars at the drop of a hat, as most Rockets fans will painfully tell you. You acquire them as they become available, and for the most part, you have to give something up to get something. Morey constantly works to make this roster a championship contender, which I'm pretty sure is the job of ALL GM's in this league. Again, why is that terrifying?

As far as what the Rockets gave up, Martin is merely a stopgap whose true value is in his expiring contract. Jeremy Lamb is a nice young piece that the Thunder can develop, but that's hardly a steep price to pay for someone of Harden's caliber. As far as the picks, the Toronto pick is not going to be as valuable as people think. That's a scrappy team that will at least contend for a playoff spot. When it comes to acquiring All-Star talent who you can lock up for the long term, you have to be willing to part with some big pieces.

LOL! 16 points off the bench in his third year in the pros? You're implying that he's reached his ceiling? OK, we can set this argument aside now.

LOL! Your entire premise is wrong! Morey expressly stated that a team needs at least two all-star players to contend and that Harden was 'a foundational piece.' Furthermore, Morey made a it a point to mention that the Rockets have the cap space to sign a second max player 'when the time is right.'

Get your facts straight man. It's embarrassing. Just like that first round loss to the a newly put together Clippers team. LOL!

Thanks for the concern. Now please go back to Memphis and wishing for Gay to reach Durant status.

Yes it is ridiculous, Shane was brought in because we had Tmac and Yao we may have been great if it wasn't for the injurys. Shane is a role player Harden is not a role player, your post doesn't work.

Only because of Lebron and Wade, without them he couldn't lead any team to the playoffs even at his peak. Shane is a good role player.
Harden is definitely superior to Shane, but his impact as we are constructed presently remains to be seen.
If we get a 1st tier star, then we can become a contender with Harden.

The stupidest thing about this thread is that Morey has explicitly stated that we are not contending with this team.

Jeremy Lamb is about to show the world he's on Rudy Gay's level, while James Harden is about to show the world he's on Shane Battier's level.

Kevin McHale is about to show the world that he's on JVG's level, while Morey is about to show the world that he's on CD's level.
