This. I should have been a little clearer. As far as drafting Hakeem over Jordan I do it 100 times out of 100, especially in that era where there were so many dominant centers. I've never been a Jordan fan, but if we trade Sampson for that pick it would have been very interesting
this is heavy! I would introduce shawn kemp to taco bell at the end of 1994. By the end of 1995, his game weight would be 330lbs. We would cruise all the way to the finals defeating the bulls. In which case, the barkley trade doesn't happen the following season. With horry locking down the mailman, we meet the bulls in the finals two more times. Dammit why didn't shawn kemp get fat sooner!!
yeah portland offered drexler and #2 for sampson. being that drexler is from here i cant imagine why they didnt to it. plus barkley and jordan were looking great in draft so i guess they thought sampson was like the next wilt chamberlain or something. kinda reminds me of 2002 ,a rumor that the clippers offered #8 and odom for #1. we could have traded yao for amare& odom. but after seeing amares injuries and odoms overpaid ass im glad we didnt do it 1.winning games in 2006 costing us Brandon Roy 2.2010 (non)trade for Bosh 3.2010 (non)trade for iggy/dal
84? no, its real, the former Gm of Portland was on espn2 special last year saying it was true. They wanted Sampson BAD.
plus its in Hakeems book. The trade was offered the rockets would have taken Barkley not jordan since they had drexler and rodney mcCray.
I would draft jordan instead of hakeen.I lik hakeem but I wldv drafted jordan. Then,I would of kept rudy gay,or traded 2 get brandon roy
we would have had for 3 years lucas/mccray/drexler/barkley/akeem until lucas got busted for drugs. then mcray got injured i think, so in the early ninties would have been floyd/maxwell/buck johnson/barkley/akeem. that team would be great not better than jordan/drexler/hakeem.
My post may have come off a little harsh pertaining to Sampson, wasn't meant to be that bad. I loved the guy. I loved that team. Sucks it was destroyed by the white stuff and injuries to Sampson. And I'm very aware how good Boston was, IMO that is the best team of all time.
Jordan was Jordan because he was the #1 option on his team. If you put Dream and Jordan together, you won't see Jordan as the league's top scorer obviously. A young Barkley/Dream front court would destroy the league. Seriously, no team would every out rebound us. EVER.
a few things besides what tinman already said about sampson 1) mirsad turkan? oh no rashard please 2) antoine carr? never woulda happened 3) juwan howard playing that game in denver in the 05-06 season..no f'n way would have given him food poisioning or something to sit him out 4) the trade for eddie griffin --ok so there was a lot of hype on griffin coming out and I was happy we got him but 3 first round picks for one is a lot, those first round picks could have really helped shape the team for the better i think CD really botched that trade not because Griffin never panned out but because he gave up a lot for an unproven lotto pick 5) pippin--i would have rather had carlos rogers 6) paid jordan 20 million to stay in the league for the 94 season so we could have whipped his butt in the finals to end all this 'they couldnt beat the bulls' nonsense 7) kept rudy t in the org never let him go to the lakers 8) hired gus johnson and jvg as the broadcast announcers
I'd exchange the 1 and 3 picks in '83 and the 1 pick in '84 for the 1 pick in '83 and the 1 and 3 picks in '84. Yes, we'd still have had Sampson, but we would have also (quite possibly) had Olajuwon and Jordan. The possibilities of that combo for for the immediate and long-term future would have been incredible. (Sampson while he was healthy plus Olajuwon and Jordan and then Olajuwon and Jordon for the next decade or so.)
Recent to Past: 2009-10: Use Trevor Ariza as trade bait with T-Mac. 2008-09: Rested Yao Ming more games, definitely taken him out in blowouts or against weaker teams. Hire a few d-leaguers or guys off the street and put bounty on Derek Fisher 2007-08: Still draft Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry Roster (could look like) Yao Ming Luis Scola Matt Barnes (or Lineas Kleiza or Richard Jefferson) Tracy McGrady (with Monta Ellis at SG) Kyle Lowry (or Rajon Rondo) Aaron Brooks Chuck Hayes Carl Landry Rafer Alston (on the bench, though) Dikembe Mutombo 2006-07: The Rockets pick moves from #8 to #19, because the Rockets are still competitive even with absence of Yao Ming and T-Mac. Even, being at #19, we still have a chance to get a player that we are missing at point guard...Kyle Lowry or Rajon Rondo. 2005-06: Drafted Monta Ellis earlier from high school, somewhat shocking draft experts. If that pick is too far out, I would select Lineas Kleiza from Europe or Brandon Bass from LSU. Even, Jason Maxiell, Ersan İlyasova, or Ronny Turiaf. All of those players fit more with what we needed at the time than Luther Head, who was pretty much like the players we already had. 2004-05: Held onto Jim Jackson, and leave David Wesley where he is. 2002-03: The Rockets in the 2002 Draft still select Yao Ming, #1. Luis Scola, early at #37. And, another unusual pick with Matt Barnes at #15. 2001-02: Held on to Richard Jefferson, if possible. But if that doesn't work out...(see above) 1998-98: Leave Pippen alone. Everything before would keep the same.
During that 06 season, the last 10 games I would just tank and hopefully the Rockets can draft Brandon Roy
This ^^^ The 90s and this past decade doesn't hurt as much as the 80s did. I just knew we would walk away with a couple championships but the loss of Sampson, then Wiggins, Lloyd and Lucas was just too much to overcome. So, as an undocumented 99er, I offer tinman as my official response.
1997 - Trade Brent Price to the Mavs for Derek Harper 1998 - stop talking to Raptors to hopefully retain Elie for the next season
