Sell them high now because both aren't working max contracts

Pay them 20-25 million per year now(for a bargain!) or be forced to match 30+ million per year later….

Green. Athletic 2 guards are more in demand than stubby heliocentric centers that aren't good at rim protection. This doesn't necessarily mean that Green is or will be the better player. Just the better commodity. The fact that the votes are this skewed means that people voting here really don't understand how the NBA works.

Depends on the number. If Stone can get them on a cheap number for long number years on their prime years, it's worth to extend. This is feasible since the no one has shown that franchise potential in the eyes of the org.

Latest trend is more low and mid level players to lock in guaranteed money than bet on themselves. With the new cap rules, more NBA teams have become stingy and agents know this.... especially if their clients are not perceived top-end talent. It's still a life changing salary raise.

If trade possibilities come up, a young prospect on a short deal is worth less than a young prospect on a long cheap deal. Those contracts are worth it to those NBA teams with a longer window, who later can flip them should they choose to. Mikal Bridges contract comes to mind, he's a better player (also older) than our guys, but Nets did the deal partly because that contract is long on a good number. Suns ended up with KD.

Green and Sengun are at a talent level above that of the Christopher or Garuba where even if Rockets fail to grow them, other teams will think different; and think they can do a better job.

Stone has to start winning trades on the margins, to do that need to have assets priced cheaply or at least fair market value (no overpay).

I'm not advocating trading Green nor Sengun but team needs to position itself in an optimal position.

    Agree, good litmus test.

Lower end guys like Patrick Williams as well with the Bulls to see who blinks first.

Wow, this is a good yet fairly depressing question. I can't see either one as a max worthy contract, at this point it's not even close, but a lot can change and the market is fickle. My guess is Green might get the bigger offer based on his scoring, athleticism, and upside, but right now it's hard to imagine either as being max level.

And this is the decision the org has to make at the end of this year.

There has always been an abundance of athletic 2-guards in the NBA.
What's more, Jalen is far from consistent.

When did Sengun prove himself as a building block for a nba franchise?

The Rockets play much better when Green plays well. He's the higher commodity. Jalen just needs to find his niche and understand he's THAT guy. Sengun is Luis Scola. I like Scola but he wasn't a superstar talent. The Rockets need to trust that Jalen will eventually get it.

Hopefully they both end up deserving fat contracts however only Sengun has shown enough consistency up to this point to get a big raise. Green is way to inconsistent. Hopefully Green develops into a consistent threat and Sengun keeps improving.

Good question, I don’t think the Rockets let either go to RFA. I see offers in the 5/100 or 4/80 for both guys. Neither are max players yet, although either could be if they have an all star level season.
