Okay so I got to thinking today about gene wilder, and realized how great this man was at comedy- aside from the fact that he held his own along side the greatest standup of all-time Richard Pryor, his comedy was so unique and different in that a lot of it was physical and intellectual.

    So where would he rank?

If we have say the top 5 are:
    Will Ferrell
    Bill Murray
    Eddie Murphy
    Kristen Wiig

I'm going to say that Bill Murray to me is the defacto #1. The guy can pretty much do anything in acting and he is a larger than life character on the screen, whereas Will Ferrell and to some degree Eddie Murphy as well, only have 1 role on screen. At least, I haven't seen Farrell play anything like the roles that Bill has been able to do in Groundhog's day, and Lost in Translation and even Stripes.

That's my logic. Also, while Wiig is understandably great at what she does, her persona just isn't big enough to match Murphy and Will Farrell's on-screen persona. She is more like a chameleon. She hasn't had any true box office success.

    So here's my list:
    1. Bill Murray
    2. Gene Wilder
    3. Eddie Murphy
    4. Will Farrell
    5. Kristen Wiig

    Tough call and very interesting.

I think the last on my list would be Eddie Murphy. He's had some definite hits, but too many misses to keep him on the list. Conversely Wiig has been great, but with almost too small of a body of work to be compared to the others. Though she seems to take the lead (writing, taking the lead of a project etc.) in a way that Bill Murray hasn't necessarily done.

Gene Wilder has done it all. Pure performer, I would put Bill Murray as number one. But Wilder has directed, written, acted and done it all.

    It's pretty tough.

I'll make a list, but I'm not really not that committed to the order. It's all very arguable.

    1. Gene Wilder
    2. Bill Murray
    3. Will Farrel
    4. Christen Wiig
    5. Eddie Murphy
